Moon Roof Pins

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a pair of moon ('sun' if you prefer ) roof pins for my 1995 ES S/R. I know the passenger side is broken ' cos it doesn't shut . Do any of you guys know where I can get replacements? I love the 480 but it can be a pita to get parts

Kinda off topic as i don't have pins but... i have a '91 ES S/R what does S/R stand for? can't be sun roof, as its listed as a moon roof with volvo...

Yes, I'm pretty sure it does stand for sunroof. It's probably for the UK market. Can't think what else it could stand for ....

Well I've hunted all over for these including Germany, Latvia & Estonia with no luck & finally decided it's not possible to buy new pins anywhere (Broken pin on the left side so it won't close properly & only opens half way). Tried good ol glasgowjim originally too but no joy there either You'd just sold your last pair jim so I just dipped out! Thanks for looking.
Anyhoo I thought let's strip it down & see if it's possible to do a repair or make my own pins

It all went pretty well, took about 2 hours all in & guess what?....... I now have a fully operational moonroof

I think maybe I used a slightly large self tapping screw but it seems OK. Used a bit of loctite for some additional strength so we'll see how long it lasts. Most likely is that the other side will break now but hay ho that's what owning a 480 is all about

out of interest, have Volvo run out of these now? I managed to get mine from Volvo a few years back. Still not fitted them though....one day

Hi Rachel,
Yes I tried the Volvo stealership & they don't do them anymore. They did give me a website address in Germany that appeared to have them online but they couldn't supply when I asked them. So I don't think they exist now.

Ah, that's a shame - another part gone for ever.
Someone on here made their own I seem to remember - can't quite recall who though so it doesn't really help does it.

I think I still have a pair of these, brand-new in my parent's garage. I seem to remember seeing them a couple of years back when clearing it out and doubt they got thrown away. Finding them again will be another matter entirely though! I'll have a look if I remember at the weekend.

I went hunting in my parent's garage this weekend and I've found one. It's brand new, never been used. If you let me know your address, I'll pop it in the post for you.

As they're now unavailable, I've also had a go at creating a 3D model of it. It's not something I've done before and I wanted to learn how, so the result is below. I've put the .STL file in my DropBox, so if anyone's got a 3D printer and wants to have a go at creating one, I'd be very intrigued to see how it turns out!

Intrigued by your 3d model. In my line of work I have some contacts in this field so I'll copy the file & see if I can get somone interested. I did wonder about making one in aluminium as it would be much stronger. Guess there's the risk of damaging the motor drive though if something sticks?
