Parts Wanted

Cleaned up the garage and found some parts you want to sell? Or are you looking for that one part? You can advertise or request just about anything that has to do with the Volvo 480 in here: brochures, towing-hooks, antenna's, etc etc...

Parts Wanted

Post by Slash01 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 8:01 am

Well I'm sick to death of people supposedly breaking cars and yet either ignore my questions about some part availabilities, or say that the parts are available and then disappear off the face of the world.
So I thought I'd start a thread on here asking for the parts I'm after. So please only helpful input is appreciated.
The following is a complete list of what I'm after, some of it is of higher importance to me than others but whilst I'm going to the effort of posting it I might as well go the whole hog.

Turbo Front brake Callipers and Carriers,
Front nose cone (Doesn't matter on colour),
Front Fog lights (With connectors and some wiring),
Fog light interior switch (Block of Three),
Rear Fog light (With connector and some wiring),
Full set of dashboard vents
3W boot light bulb (Or place to get one)
Blank plastic cover for where the Info Centre control would be (Next to the clock)

I believe that's all, going by memory anyway.

I dont suppose that you are near glasgow?

need to check but should be able to supply ...

the triple switch (cheap)
possibly the rear fog light and connectors (cheap)
the dash vents - you need to specify whether you have air con or not as aircon cars have an extra vent  (cheap)

your boot light is just a festoon bulb any motor factor should have that .

however...

Vented disc and calipers will be hard to find (more expensive)
Nose cone would need to be local to you as posting is not really an option. (not expensive)
Unbroken front fogs pretty rare. There are 2 types by the way early and later models 92 is watershed year. but in reality doesnt matter as long as they are a matching pair. (expensive)
Oh the older fogs have a clip on replacement glass the newer ones have the glass stuck on.

you need to give more basic info about your car or you may end up buying some parts you cant use.

I am currently pulling a long day at work so it will be the weekend before i can get back to you.

basic info is - year model engine size auto / non auto and air con / non aircon oh and infocentre / non info centre.

Hi all, thanks for the replies.
Yes maybe I should have given some more info about the car. I was a bit pissed at the time of posting as I'd enquired about 3 cars and basically been blanked by the people stripping them. I live in Leicester so willing to drive up to 1hr 1/2, so Essex is too far for just a nose cone.

The car is a 1993 S 1.7 manual without Air con, being an S it doesn't have the info centre which is why I'm after the blanking plate that covers the place where the control switch would normally be.
All of the vents in the dash are broken. Service history says the dash has been off a couple of times for some repairs, obviously the work was carried out by Jeremy Clarkson and his hammer.
With regards to the front fogs I don't mind which type I have, as at the minute I don't have any. (Being an S) But I would prefer the early type as a believe they are stronger.
About the boot light bulb, I've looked in my local centres and they don't have any the correct wattage, or even close to it for the correct size. The 3W is very short and the only one the same length is a 10W which is too high. I do know that later cars went to 5W and the bulbs are longer and fatter.

Oh and does anyone know if you can repair heated rear windows, some of the element strips have gaps in.
There are always ample warnings and there are always subtle signs,

Hi!
Yes I believe you can repair the heated windows.
There are repair kits that are like a cooper paint that you can apply with a tiny brush.
Do a search on eBay for "window heather repair"
Cheers.

If you are willing to drive 1.5hrs then I'd suggest you drive to Lake's Volvo, on the A1. Google maps reckons it's 1hr25mins from Leicester.

You could too make a day of it as they have just under ten (a guess) 480s in usually. It's a nice old fashioned scrap yard where you are just let loose to take apart what you want.

You'd get your nose cone and there is definately a turbo in there (silver, becoming embedded in brambles) that you could get the vented calipers off. I'm sure between the cars you'd get a set of fog lights (a Celebration is recentish so hopefully there'd be two new-style ones waiting for you. All the other bits wouldn't be a problem either as there's so many dead 480s there.

Well this is the first time I've been able to get back on the forum since Friday.
So on Saturday I got, thanks to Mark (Sparkysparks) I have a nose cone, some later style front fogs, a rear fog with its connector and wires and the interior switches for them.
I also went to Lakes Volvo the scrappies nearby and got a unpainted front bumper, some early style front fogs with their connectors and wires, a pair of rear side windows with good seals and the removable trim panels that go above them.

I am still in need of a full set of dash vents for a non Aircon car, and some calipers and carriers from a turbo. However the guys at the scarppies told me that 440 and 460 diesels had the same vented discs. I've also found that the 440LX 1.8 may have had vented but I'm not certain.
Whilst there I also noticed that the mk1 s40/v40's had vented discs that looked about the same size, does anyone know if this is so, as the calipers may be easier to get.

Also interestingly the Parts book for the 480 only lists one carrier and different calipers for vented, non-vented. does this mean that the carriers are all the same across the range. If so I might just buy some recon'd calipers for a turbo.

Thanks all.

Well I might be able to get some recon'd calipers for a turbo. They're expensive but am having trouble getting any from breakers or scrappies.
If I can get them I'd only need the correct carriers. If you say there are two sizes i'll believe you, but the parts book doesn't give part numbers for them so I thought maybe there was only one size.

Not 100% sure what your on about there Jim. I presume your referring to the fact that a 1993 car would have the later style front fogs, seeing as a stated that I have a set of both types. I'm unsure about which to use for styling reasons. I do like the later one's though. Would covering them in clear plastic film offer any protection?

Also I'm still in need of the Dash vents.

Right quoting directly from the parts book.
Front brake calipers non-vented CH -538519 (9031106-9 l/h) (9031107-7 r/h)
CH 538520- (9031159-8 l/h) (9031160-6 r/h)
Front brake calipers Vented (9031501-1 r/h) (9031502-9 l/h)
There are no part numbers for the carriers but there is one for the rear ones though they are called retainers.

Surely any film or plastic would melt?

If you are worried, I'd say the solution is to (A) relax, or (B) fit some wire mesh.

FYI I've had 6 480's and not had a smashed foglight yet.

The problem is round my way at least once a year the council covers a road with little stones and hopes that the traffic will bed it in for them.
The plastic film shouldn't melt, do the fogs really get that hot? I know window tint doesn't melt and that's placed directly onto the elements of heated screens.
Anyway the fogs will go in after the respray in april. I'll have decided which one's I'm using be then.

I don't need the aircon vents but I do need:
Part numbers 3447651-5 (Left side large dash vent)
3447652-3 (Right side large dash vent)
3447648-1 (Passenger side vent)
3447655-6 (Left side small vent above large one)
3446756-4 (Right side small vent above large one)
3433532-3 (Vertical vent in console surround)

And I also need 4 seat bolts
