front brake "caliper-thing"

Cleaned up the garage and found some parts you want to sell? Or are you looking for that one part? You can advertise or request just about anything that has to do with the Volvo 480 in here: brochures, towing-hooks, antenna's, etc etc...

front brake "caliper-thing"

Post by mac0502 » Mon Dec 19, 2011 11:42 am

Hi

I need the "thing" that caliper is attached to.
To be exact the "thing" has two bolts with bits of rubber and caliper is attached to those bolts (with 13mm screws). And I need that "thing" and one of bolts with rubber.
I am located in Glasgow, Scotland.

Sorry for not using the professional name of the part but really don't know how to call it in english. Once will find out how is it called will update my post.

Caliper holder or carrier would be the 'normal' name?

This bolts to the back of the hub an if it is the part I think it is the bolts that hold it in place are SPECIAL fine thread.

to confirm any chance of a photo (low resolution)

I need that carrier or holder. It is attached somewhere behind the hub by 2 17mm screws... and it has two bolts with (some rubber) to attach the caliper to it.
Please see the link....

There are 2 sizes of brake caliper carriers available .

If you get the smaller size then you will have difficulty sourcing brake pads as volvo dont do that size. Far better to replace with the larger size. However if you have the small size I have a new replacement part. The other parts you want are guide pins ( have 1 spare pin ) and the 2 mounting bolts are a special thread volvo only parts they have to send to sweden !

Hey Jim,

Your post brings another question up. How to know if my carrier is the bigger one or the smaller?
I just found someone who is stripping the car and is willing to sell carrier and the pin, it can be posted to me after PayPal (£11.99 + postage)-but again would have to know the size!!!

Regards.

There is no number on the carrier, so I measured the carrier and made pictures...
Please see link bellow...(don't know how to post pictures here)
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 08ec7bb694

hope this will allow to determine is it the smaller or bigger version...
Thanks in advance.

Regards.

Hey Marek,

I need left hand side one, but I think that it is universal part (left and right are the same ) also through ebay I found that part in london which would be cheaper and quicker to post, but the seller went quiet since yesterday afternoon...so I may consider your offer. I am a little bit concern about postage fee from Krakow to Glasgow...-anyway if I wont hear from ebay seller by tomorrow evening than I will get in touch with you.
Thanks for your reply.

part number 3342528 , CH > 538519 , smaller
part number 3344060 , CH 538520 > , bigger

left and right side is the same , this one is from my 1990 ES , CH 559248 , so it is the bigger .

Thanks

I bought one on ebay from a volvo broken for parts for £11 with guide pins.

Jim, thank you also for offering your help. I can't drive now without brake, but also fitting the carrier in isn't a hard job. I surly will get in touch if any difficulties appear.
I don't have much experience, but with small jobs I have been doing so far, the biggest problem I have had was parts naming and/or sourcing the right one for my car.

Thank you all for your help, wish you rust-free, leaks-free and breakdown-free new year!!!
