I´m selling a nice Volvo 480 ES Pressinformation map !!!!!!!

Cleaned up the garage and found some parts you want to sell? Or are you looking for that one part? You can advertise or request just about anything that has to do with the Volvo 480 in here: brochures, towing-hooks, antenna's, etc etc...

I see a lot of things on ebay DE I would like to buy, but for some very strange reason, not many Germans seem to use PayPal or similar, which is a shame, because sending money electronicaly or via a bank cheque is far too expensive from the UK for most items :(

I resorted to sending cash for the last ebay Item I got from Germany (a very nice and very heavy model of a black 480)

Why do so few (in fact none who's stuff catches my eye) Germans use PayPal - you guys really are missing out on a lot of potential buyers...

I've never used PayPal... I use my creditcard to pay for online orders (webshops), and internet banking for non-webshop-items (like on Ebay)... if the seller gives you his international bank number, transferring money is free (up to €18.000 or so) between European countries. Maybe it only works this way for Euro-currency-countries?

NO NO and thrice NO!!!

It is NOT free to send money from the UK (as a non euro country) to continental europe, even using the BIC and IBAN (known as swift code here) - banks are NOT allowed to charge more for a transfer anywhere in Europe than they would charge to send the same amount of the same currency within your own country. This works great in continental europe, because transferring euros to a bank in your country is free - therefore sending euros to a bank in europe is also free.

BUT, as already mentioned, the UK is not a euro-zone, so Banks charge the same to send euros to continental europe as they would charge to send euros within the UK, which just happens to be a VERY high charge - in the order of up to 25% more!

It is just not practical to send euros from UK bank accounts (well certainly not HSBC or Abbey)...

Or you could give me.. say 200 pounds at the next meeting, and let me pay for your european orders

Maybe if you send the seller an e-mail about the advantages of PayPall, he'll create an account.

My bank tells me the following rules apply for transferring money in the EU (*) :

1) Fill out EURO as currency type
2) Maximum amount of € 12,500.- per transfer
3) Use the BIC (Bank Identifier Code) of the bank of the receiver
4) Use the IBAN (International Bank Account Number) of the receiver

(*) The EU are currently: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Holland, Austria, Portugal, Spain, the U.K. and Sweden.

I have just transferred money to Sweden and am looking forward to see how this ends up. Transferring to the U.K. should be no different for me and transferring from the U.K. to continental EU should also give no problems. But when banks don't agree with EU-terms they are expected to follow, well, they're in control... (and should receive big fines when they don't follow this piece of legislation...) Just check this with your own bank before doing it of course ;)

The website of my bank says that's only true for countries that signed the "EC 2560/2001", which says that the charge for transferring money internationally should be the same as the charge for transferring money in the country itself.

By the way, I also transferred money to Sweden yesterday; I guess you bought a pair of white indicaters? :)

*YOU* CAN send money to the UK with no problems/extra charge (possibly)
*WE* CANNOT send money in euros to you without HIGH CHARGE

Which is kind of what I said, was it not? Unfortunately our charges are high for sending euros within this country, so charges are high for sending out of the country...

BTW: Banks in the UK never even know what IBAN and BIC are - I ALWAYS have to describe what these numbers are, and they ALWAYS have to go and ring someone else to find out what it means in their own manual of operation

I HATE BANKS

Certainly not.

For example german banks charge 15 Euro !!, if makeing money over to a U.K. account !! When useing BIC and SWIFTcode !!!!

And the U.K. bank charges even more then.

I think, it was the HSBC bank :kill:

A banktransfer to "Euro" countries only costs 1 Euro !, when useing BIC and Swiftcode.

I hate Europe. The only good thing about it is this club :hopping:

True, I meant to confirm your post. I hadn't read the website of my bank when submitted my first post.

I never liked PayPal, but now I understand why it has become more popular lately..

OK, I understand the problems that are going on. I hope UK banks will one day too join the rest of Europe when it comes down to bank transfers :(

That they don't even know what IBAN and BIC are is a terrible start...

I have PayPal for 3 years now. And never had any problems with it. I mostly buy items on e-bay from the USA. And there they all got PayPal.
