My 89 ES did have DRL in the bulb out circuit but removing a relay and adding a jumper wire stopped it being triggered from the DRL but left it working for the rears and most importantly stops the plastic roasting.

The relay for the front bulb detector is in the front relay box it’s the one at the top of the pyramid and coloured blue. The 1992 wiring diagram doesn’t show it, the 1991 diagram does, so I guess that’s the point it was removed and changing the DRL to LED wont set off the warning light.

The jumper needs to go between the terminals S, SL and SR as shown in the picture.

This is awesome info! Thanks a lot for posting this. :)

Or that could be 1994 as it appears the number of bulbs the bulb failure system detected changed at least twice (may be more).

Up to 91 - Rear lights, brake lights and DRL
92 and 93 - Rear lights and brake lights.
94 on - Brake lights only.

Sorry to revive such an old thread :D

But I was wondering if these are still available? As my celebration is nearing completion and these would look fantastic on it! :hopping:

I'm up for a pair too, if they are still available :) Am trying to repair broken DRL lenses with a DIY fix at the moment, and I think LED lamps would be a better long term solution to the old style hot lamps.

Sadly I don't think Spree is doing this anymore - The email address Jim has for him is no longer registered.

I have asked Brinkie for advice on locating appropriate units (see thread on replacement light cluster). If I make any progress, I will PM you with updated information.

Regards

Martin

I have bought myself on Ebay some different types of BA15S LEd bulbs to try an replace DRLs for LEDs. All of them in warm white tone. While I wait for them to come from China I have a few questions. I really would like to replace all BA15s on the car for LEds, that's pretty much all of them but the long beam hallogen H4 and the pop up cross H7 sockets.

Does the bulb failure signal on my 1991 turbo check all the bulbs around the car or just the rear ones?

If so, has anyone tried to install a canbus warning signal canceller. How did it work?

the 'bulb check' function appears to change over around 1991 according to HBOL so difficult to say :-(

on 1993 version ONLY rears , on 1989 front DLR & all rears only know cos we had one of each :-)

doubt if CANBUS is appropriate, 480 wasn't that sophisticated, it is a only a box o tricks in the rear cubby alongside the aerial ;)
