WANTED - Subframe

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

WANTED - Subframe

Post by dee480 » Sat Apr 22, 2023 7:42 pm

Hi all,
I'm looking to replace the subframe on a 1995 2L manual that I'm trying to save from the scrappy and was told it might be worth checking here! any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated. I'm in Scotland so someone uk based would be ideal.
Thanks!

A bit far away from you but there's a old school Volvo breakers yard near me called lake autos that have some 480 stuff, might be worth giving them a call to see if there's any around that they might be able to post! :)

Here's their site http://www.lakes4volvo.co.uk/

You could also try Terry Stone Volvo Breakers in Brandeston S Yorks. No website but details here. Make sure you get one for a manual car as the auto is different.

Thanks for the tip! I gave him a call this morning, said he'd have a look, says he found one but thinks it's for an automatic. so close...

Keep that as an option,

The front cross tube on your's is probably OK and you could cut the tube from your subframe and weld it onto the auto's subframe,

(if you can weld and you are really stuck)

This is the difference. If you end up thinking of following Alan's suggestion, you need to check first which part of yours has corroded. Mine rusted into holes on the curved section one side of the gearbox mount. According to my garage man, it's the only part where welds are not allowed, so it may well be where yours has gone.

They are different at the front too; manual subframe the front cross bar is level but for the automatic it has a horizontal "s" bend shape to it...

Really appreciate all the replies!

I'll have to go and have a peek but I think I might be able to cut and weld an auto one on to mine as a last resort.

Is there anything stopping me just fabricating a repair piece welding it in?

The tube that's highlighted red is the bit thats rusted away.

the main difference is at the front, the two shown here are the rear mount old /new

link here shows all versions, if the GOOGLE Phots works

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=36380&p=223783&hilit=mount#p223783

the middle one has the auto 'offset'

if it doesn't I can send the link to Jeff?
