For Sale: 1994 480 GT - Rescue Car R6

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

For Sale: 1994 480 GT - Rescue Car R6

Post by dcwalker » Sat Mar 05, 2022 5:25 pm

R6, the 480 GT taken on by the Rescue Group, now needs a new home, meaning she is now officially up for sale.

There is an extensive thread where you can read all about her in extensive detail, seeing the journey she has been on over recent months:

Furthermore, a full set of photographs taken while she has been in my care recently can be found here: https://postimg.cc/gallery/L2V64Pv

Therefore I am going to keep this fairly brief.

R6 is a 1994 GT with approximately 116,000 miles on the clock. She has seen extensive work on her mechanicals (full service including cam-belt, brakes, etc) bodywork (rusting rear arches professionally repaired and almost a complete respray) interior (dashboard and other repairs) and cosmetic details (replacement badges, for example). She has also been thoroughly cleaned a number of times now.

I am not suggesting she is perfect - for example, the aircon is not working although there are no indications that the system needs anything other than a recharge; I am not sure that the heated seats work. However, all the essential systems work exactly as they should, including the speedo and info centre.

R6 has a clean MOT until 5th August 2022.

Some up to date photos follow taken today specifically for this post.

R6 is now an excellent example of a rare car - there were only 250 UK GTs in the first place, given that the GT was the special edition for 1994.

Now for the nitty-gritty of price! The Rescue Group does not aim to make profits, simply to recoup its costs and be in a position to plough any sale proceeds into the next 480 in need of salvation. Plus, of course, we have all seen that the values of good examples of the 480 are at long last on the increase. The sale prices of all rescue cars to date have reflected all these points. Given the time, effort and money devoted to this car she is not being given away - we simply cannot afford to do that  The asking price therefore is £3,750.

I appreciate that isn't cheap, but we think it a very fair price for what is on offer.

R6 is currently with me near York and can of course be viewed here. I (or one of us) will also look into the practicalities of meeting you halfway with R6 if you are seriously interested but the other end of the country. Obviously, all questions welcome!

David

What a lovely transformation you have all done. So different from when it was on my drive, I could see the potential and am really pleased that not only has it been saved but will be a car for someone to be proud of in the future.

A huge thank you to you for being part of the initial rescue too; It couldn't have happened without your help.

It looks really good and I think the asking price is fair, there is a significant amount of value in just the 'basics' being done, let alone the work on top of that. Hopefully a prospective buyer will recognise that.

Just looks excellent, was the paint ever that good out of the factory ?
The wheel arches are definitely better.
Me Mrs is only just about tolerating me owning R2, so I can't really buy another.
Otherwise me drive would look like Jeff's with a least three of them in a row.
Its odd as that R6 is making me love the reasons I was never a big fan of the GT in the first place;
the special interior, alloy wheels, paint colours and a cassette player.
Now they have really become a reason to like such a rare car.
Can you post videos on the forum ?
If so, maybe at some point you could do a walk round video, including popping up the lights ?
Cheers, Richard.

The cassette player was on all trim levels/editions except the Celebration :D

Many thanks. It was just too good an opportunity to pass up. The thread outlining all the work done by the amazing team is a real eye opener. It’s been pretty much stripped bare and no stone has been left unturned. I knew it would always take something very special to tempt me back to a manual car and this is it! :D

I bet it didn’t even get that kind of attention in the factory in 1994

Cool! I've had many automatic company cars and these always choose an auto ever time it comes up for renewal,
but I only look forward to driving me 480 manual.
Its engaging driving, especially on a good country road.
Cheers, Richard.
