Chequer plate is appalling even on a Land Rover never this poor two-tone! Imagine if it has perfect arches and he just likes glued on tat?!

It is 'Gunthered' (technical term). I'm going to ask for more photos and a bit more information about the 'enhancements' that have been made to the car. Will report back if I get anything that I can translate adequately from Neanderthal...

O dear, the tat is probably hiding rust and stone chips. MoT history doesn't look frightening. Looks in need of rescue to me ! Anyone near enough to go and check it out ?

Reply hot off the press from the seller on eBay...

Hi the cracks on the first picture, on the drivers side, and the wheel archers are all good yes, the interior not bad condition, but it needs the bar fixing back on under drivers seat, and yes the car starts but some times u may have to turn key before power goes to the engine, Don't no why that is but it does starts and yes it drives, but there is a delay in the stopping time when you put the brake pedal down, it might just need bleeding am not sure, but I wouldn't recommend driving it! till the brakes are fixed!

To be fair it was a quick reply, and addressed all of the points I'd asked for clarification. Seller appears to be a bona-fide eBayer

Still, £500 for a gunthered example is a bit saucy! :kill:

I may be in Sheffield in the next couple of weeks, but probably not before the end of this auction.. It is a 2 hour drive for me, so unlikely to happen just to see this car, which is a shame..

I wonder whether the chequer plate is actually "stick-on" chequer plate, rather than actual metal chequer plate....

Some more photos, courtesy of the very obliging seller...

Image

Looks like the cambelt was last done in 2010 around 58K miles...

Image

Boot cover missing or covered with some hideous fablon

Image

'Normal' wear to seat bolster, non-airbag steering, clean enough looking cockpit, door pockets intact -

DEFINITELY WORTH SAVING THEN!!

I've asked for some close up pics of the rear arches and underside, which may arrive tomorrow... Watch this space!

we've asked similar things.... prepare to be disappointed...

Me: Do you have pictures of the rear arches? Is that Chequer plate metal or just stick on graphics?
Seller: Its Metal Checker plate protection for it that will last as long the car lasts!
Me: Do you have pictures?
Seller: You can see its metal
Me: Yes, but I'd want to remove it. So wondering what the metal underneath it is like?
Seller: Its ok! but you will need to fill the holes in were the checker plate is screwed down! Then spray it, its Up 2 u like!

 :badmood:

just realised the checker plate in in the headlamps.

Must be a very thin plate or stick in faux plate.

looks like a tidy car too.

And the bonnet! Why given that both the bonnet and lamp covers are fibreglass..... :wall:

We have to go to Leeds on Thursday, so I've arranged to call in and look at this on the way. (This is always assuming I do actually get an address !) Seller isn't there til 5pm, so if anyone is interested in bidding pm me your mobile no. so I can text my observations before the auction ends.

Isn't it always like that? My 480 never would automagically start without turning the key.

Not sold through eBay as it shows 0 bids. Hope it doesn't turn up at a crooked seller. A very dilapidated example of a 480 (but with valid MOT and "recent" service) was sold here for 500 and snapped up by a very nasty wannabe dealer, who managed to sell the car for 1500 to a hapless victim. It is astonishing how many people don't do their research before buying such a car.
