Haha, it does make you wonder what planet some folks are on...
I've posted a question to the seller on eBay.. just for shits and giggles, of course
Hello there,
Did you make an error with the price? A £5k car would be pristine, full history, undergone restoration, photographed properly described in fulsome detail and not for sale 'as a film prop now surplus to requirements'!
More like £500 - 700 in that condition, I'm afraid. For comparison, have a look at another white 480 that has been on sale here since early last year which was also initially priced at a crazy sum (£8k I believe!) and is still unrealistic and no takers at £1990. Also there is another tatty ES on at £876 but overpriced for what it is..
Good luck with your wacky plan!
Martin

Re: £5k for a really rough 'film prop' 480
Clearly this car is not worth £5000.
However, I'm not sure the Benefit in emailing him to say it's only worth £500!
Surely it has to be worth more than £500.....
Scrap value is around £200/300.
We have to believe cars like this are worth being alive thus worth more otherwise sellers want bother and just scrap it.
If we don't believe in these cars who will?

Re: £5k for a really rough 'film prop' 480
Which is why, whenever I've sold a car (including in the past a wedgie or two) I've always started the auction at 99p and gone with what the market believes the car is worth. This nonsense of sticking a ridiculous notional value on a 480 just because they are rare seems to undermine their true value even more than letting them go for buttons, in my view.nigel poustie wrote: ↑Sat Mar 13, 2021 10:47 amClearly this car is not worth £5000.

In any case, it is just lazy puntery, using a platform like fleaBay to chance your arm. Spoils things for the serious buyers and sellers.

^^^^ that ^^^^^
I hate people asking “what’s it worth”
For insurance purposes it’s irrelevant because they’ll ignore anything you say. For selling it’s about finding the right person at the right time. Case in point, KGF celeb.

Re: £5k for a really rough 'film prop' 480
And don’t forget; me! ♀️
That’s the truth. If you are lucky enough to have £6000 to spend at that time that car comes up, which is the best on offer at the time you’re looking, you’re gonna buy it.
I’ve seen a few since buying mine that I’d have preferred but; decision made and now I have a nice 480 and it’s mine. That’s the best bit.
Same goes for someone who has £1500 to spend, everyone wants the best they can get for their available balance when they’re looking. You might get lucky, you might not. We’ve all seen good ones go for £2500 and not so good ones (cough) go for £5000 (and subsequently another £5000 spent...).
Don’t know how much longer I dare hold onto mine as it really needs to be garaged. 🥺 Even the Carcoon isn’t helping too much with the rust spots appearing.
Back to the original point though. Yes, £5000 is a lot of money for not much 480. It could be worth thousands if you have the expertise to fix everything and do all the body work for yourself and you just want to keep it. It’s, wotsit called? ......subjective? They all are recently! All over the shop in condition and asking price aren’t they?
Also, those who know very little about cars or 480s may simply search what the last ones have sold for and are up for and just whack the same price on because it’s the same car!
