Oh look, another high price

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

Then again, a 480 Turbo in this condition is becoming increasingly rare. Even in its native country they're still snapped up by the banger racers and for engine transplants into Renault 5 Turbo. The car has become too rare and has proven too difficult to maintain for the boy racer brigade, who used to be the main cause of 480 Turbo decline.
(though under current Covid regulations and curfew there's not much to be raced and car meets are illegal)

Even with ones as expensive as these? Would be good to get hold of some renaults and put the engines back in 400s

No, only the project cars of course. They won't scrap a 480 turbo in good condition because those are too expensive for them to buy.

Speaking of high prices, since I've imported my 480 Turbo to the US other people have started following along. Recently saw this one for over $26,000 USD.

Nice.

If I sell mine, the US market is the first place I'd look. So it has a life (hopefully) in a warmer climb. Applications from south of Tennessee only. I've looked into it previously. With regards to methods of shipping and prepping and taxes etc. I even contacted the US VOCA but never got a response! So, he's staying....for now.

So, who can unravel that...

It's German...but a Celebration not a Collection. Was it only the UK ones that called Celebrations?
And it's a turbo, listed as a Celebration.

My head hurts.

It is a German Collection - the seller's website has a walk-round video which quite clearly shows the sill guard, engraved Volvo Collection. I did wonder if it was a turbo with the interior from a Celeb, but it isn't. I've sent a message to the seller, don't suppose they will take any notice tho.

Lethal Lily - 1991 White Turbo

Evil Eva - 1992 Paris Blue Turbo

no previous 480s - can't bear to sell any

I noticed some inconsistencies as well, like the Pictor wheels, despite the seller calling them Taurus.

If it's as good as the pictures suggest...

...then I don't know why there is so much shock when one reaches £5k. In today's classic car scene that is peanuts.

A decent paintjob, wheel refurb, leather repair to a driver's bolster & new rear lights and you're pretty much at that price anyway... without even buying a car -or- any of the hours spent!

Take the other Volvo coupe that divides opinion... the 262C. Prices now £18k and rising.

For as long as America is printing cash like confetti, then finite assets will only climb.

Sadly, our steering wheel placement makes this less desirable on the US market. Plus shipping, plus headlamp adjustments. I don't think there is a pot of gold in the US for obscure European right hand drive cars.

I'd agree when you see daft Ford prices
just seen an advert posted on the Reliant web site for an expansion tank for a RS1600, £500, not that Reliant owners pay such prices, just that the engine was sourced from XR3 as a 'cheap plentiful' when new and these parts are 'difficult'

Hi! this is the Grey car I missed... It went to an Irish dealer in Dublin who sold it for almost £8k... I refused to pay the extra £200 he wanted and he didn't even reply to my offer... Sold much quicker than I thought BUT it did have both sills replaced and figured for a garage one owner for 30 years car found a bit odd. The last owner was really nice and said the car was beautiful so I was sad to miss it. These classic car dealers are just buying anything old in super condition and adding £3k to the price. Sad times but really happy the 480 is getting the love it deserves. Turns out my old Turbo that's been sitting for years might be worth something after all!

Anthony :D
