any celebrations for sale

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

Hello Craig, and welcome to the club. Have you had a 480 before ? What sort of budget are you working with ? There is a Celebration coming up for auction but very low mileage and excellent condition so the estimate is very high at £6-8k. The only other limited edition is the GT, but only 250 made so they are in short supply. There was also a two-tone which Volvo called a limited edition but in effect it was really a special edition as they didn't limit numbers.
You will find lots of help on here, and a really friendly community so any questions, just fire away.

I know Chris Wickers at the Volvo Owners Club is selling his celeb. Again, it would be dependent on budget I guess.

This one is currently SORN and mot just ran out but he plans to get it MOT’d once sold as he’s not going to use it, so the new owner gets the best of the time. It will have been well cared for. I’d say it’s around 90k at present.

I found a very old article and assume this is still the same one judging by SORN/MOT data.

Good luck. I hope you find what you’re looking for. Any wedge is a good wedge. 😁

It's all a question of where "value" lies in the mind of any given buyer...

There are the standard models (S, ES & Turbo) and then the "special editions" (limited numbers or not) - do you want standard or special?

Comparing the GT and the Celebration:

GT - over and above the standard ES, the GT had specially commissioned leather patterned upholstery, air-conditioning (but no moonroof) 15" Vesa wheels, and only in one of two brand new (at the time) colours - 321 Racing Green metallic and 322 Burgundy pearl metallic. Only 250 made.

Celebration - over and above the standard ES - unique leather upholstery (better quality with ruched door cards), air conditioning (but no moonroof), 15" Cetus wheels, roller blind cover, and only in one of three colours - 239 Satin White, 322 Burgundly pearl metallic and 323 Storm grey metallic. Only 480 made and each with a plaque identifying its own unique number xxx/480.

Many would say that the extra value in the Celebration above all others is that they were the run-out models in the UK (although the others were still available to buy until they ran out) and not just limited, but each uniquely numbered.

All depends what you are looking for - I now have a GT and a Celebration and I'm happy... :D

Good luck to the OP and your quest!

Given rates of survival, some of the standard models are becoming rarer than the special ones, people are always shocked to learn that my car is one of around 15 (note: actually 6) still on the road (1988 ES). Ironic though not surprising that the limited editions make up a significant portion of surviving cars

You are right Ben - it's so often the way: niche cars and limited editions generate interest in being preserved, bog standard cars don't.

Compare the numbers of 480s around with 440s & 460s. Likewise, as you say, many of us on here have specials rather than just good old ES models. Mind you, there is also the factor that both GT and Celebration are among the newest 480s surviving...

Oh yes, apologies - outlining the Celebration spec in my previous post I completely missed out the radio/cd!

Good point Edie

Yes, Chris Wickers's 480 is a good example and very well looked after. He's got a fair price in mind too, not bargain basement but not pie-in-the-sky money either. He's also a very nice guy to deal with. For what it is worth to someone his is also one of the only 480s I personally know of that has cruise control...

He is very keen it goes to a good home - unfortunately when he spoke to me about it I had just had a bad patch health/work-wise and was also in the throes of taking on Pud, otherwise it's very likely it would be living here by now.

Within a community it is generally recognised as being friendly and trying to help...

...but of course, if you don't want this particular community's friendly, inclusive and conversational style no-one is forcing you to stay.

Don't give up the day-job for a career in the Diplomatic Service, will you...

I can never understand why someone with 2 posts on a forum would think it is acceptable to tell other long term members what they can and cannot discuss on their own forum. I only speak for myself here but if I had a 480 for sale, I can assure you that I would not entertain you even coming to view it.

This is a friendly forum where members are happy to discuss issues and help one another. As I maintain the Celebration register, I have talked to many owners and often know of Celebs for sale before they get listed anywhere. At the moment I know of two possiblities but as I am in total agreement with James, I will not be pursuing enquiries. This is not the place for someone so rude.

I am glad you will not be using your powers to stop any answers. That is very kind, and much appreciated.

Could you maybe complete a comprehensive review of the rest of the forum, its posts and our member’s behaviour and come back to us with some more improvement ideas and show is where we have been going wrong for the last 19 years?
