Look who's back up for sale

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

Hmmm...trouble is, we identified a whole load of stuff NOT to like about this turbo

And the fact it has come around for sale again so quickly definitely rings the alarm bells, to me, anyway.

If I can find time and opportunity this week I am going to go and look at it. Not interested in it myself but I'll try to return and post a fair report so anyone who is interested knows a bit more.

Bonhams auction (the previous sale) states sold for £2,475

Perhaps it was purchased solely for the offside front Taurus centre cap which is now missing since Bonhams

If anyone is interested there is a video that Matthewsons have done for the auction. Something about this car just doesn’t feel right? I have serious doubts about the mileage after viewing the video. The wear and tear in the cabin tells me it’s a high mileage vehicle. Both rear arches are decaying, cracked rear lenses, and it sits lopsided ,after market silencer, rust stains on the carpets, overall I rate it £500 maximum on a good day.

No MOT currently, and given the list of defects the car failed two subsequent MOTs (one month apart - listing some of the same defects) makes it very unlikely to get it MOT'ed without major investments.

did the MoT guy do a 'virtual' MoT???, maybe a Zoom meeting where they showed them the number plate then a different car.

surely the second MoT station could have it's ticket removed by VOSA?

There is a 'possibility' that all work had been done, but seven miles between the two fails, then not many more and it 'passes' ? :?

PS noticed that every one is at different MoT stations :hopping:

but to be fair the list does seem to get less as the MoT progresses, but if mine fails, I'd fix and go back to same place as then they will only CONCENTRATE on the items that failed previously?

Appealing an MOT isn't as straightforward as it should be.

For maximum effect you want it as close as possible to the original test date and with as few miles as possible covered.

Even corrosion only has a 3 month window.

Don't know how it works for MOT, for APK (Netherlands) you pay 20-30 € for the test, many workshops offer it to do for free if you combine the APK with service maintenance. If it fails APK they will fix the defects (unless it's really bad and expensive - then it's up to the customer) and then you get "passed after repairs" on the form. But I don't want them to repair my car, so I'll pay the 20 euro and ask them to register it as a fail. Then the fearmongering starts, "you are not allowed to drive the car anymore until it is repaired" which is technically true, but a fail isn't registered, it's just a legal document that they haven't issued you a pass and you are entitled to contest their decision. The APK expiry date doesn't change and the police won't stop you unless your car shows very obvious defects. Also, if you repair the car yourself or have it repaired by someone else, you can have a free retest in 2 weeks. When a car fails on a loose fog light I can very well repair that myself. ;)

Of course I won't drive it when there is serious fail involving safety, but last time the local workshop tried to scam me into 600 Euro of repairs, claiming tie rod ends, track rod ends and control arms had torn rubbers and the shock absorbers were bad. I didn't believe them, as all these parts were just 4 years old (less than 10,000 miles driven) so I took it out of their hands and went to my trusted specialist who lives an hour away. Turned out that just the rubber grommets of the tie rod ends were on its way out (5 euro each) and they also didn't use a new ring for the oil drain plug, so it was very much marking its territory. Didn't even bother for a free retest, paid the guy who serviced the car properly for a test and never went back, never paid the local garage for the APK and the oil and they've never sent me a bill (though they have my address and phone number) so they knew they were trying to scam me.
Robert.

we could 'present' for an MoT one month prior to expiry date and if it failed then at least you still had a 'piece of paper' to show the Police :-)

but now it's 'online' and with the ANPR system they could catch you out.

even used to get a 'ticket' and with a wee note saying 'fix this/that' as they knew i would that week-end, ah the old days
