Switzerland: 14500 GBP for... well...??

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

Switzerland: 14500 GBP for... well...??

Post by NillerGT » Sun Dec 06, 2020 6:12 pm

So, here is what I just saw for sale here in Switzerland:
https://www.autoscout24.ch/de/8197551?u ... source=sms

The market here is small and a bit schizophrenic, I’m afraid.
Cars like mine (reasonably ok, Swiss MOT, no huge issues) - and there is around 1 a month coming out - are advertised for 2000-4000 CHF (1700-3400 GBP). Then there are cars which are a bit better, perhaps the seats are better and no plastics at all are broken, which sit around for months at, say, 9000 CHF. And then there are outliers like this one. There is also a 127000 km Celebration for 18900 CHF.
I mean - I have imported 4 new and 2 used cars into Switzerland, it is far from impossible... am I wrong, or could I find equivalent cars in NL or F at half the price?
Just got my first 480 (August 2020)!
1990 ES 1.7, Superwhite
I have ticked off around 45 items, cosmetic and mechanical
Remaining:
- Vibration at 1500 RPM (hard to locate)
- Rough idle (harder one)
- Touch-ups
- Change rims (Pollux to slightly fresher Atlas)
- install my “new” flawless door pocket
I also just bought a 2004 XC90.

Dont know about prices in France but there is a strong following for them in NL so more expensive there

Interesting that a Celeb has found it's way over there. Any chance of finding out the no of 480 and colour ? Would be useful for the Celebration Register.

Snazzy - 1993 Paris Blue ES red dipstick 2.0i bought 2001
Lethal Lily - 1991 White Turbo

hubby has
Sven - 1994 Racing Green GT
Evil Eva - 1992 Paris Blue Turbo

no previous 480s - can't bear to sell any

Thanks for the link - it's actually a Collection from Germany. I wondered why it had the wrong wheels!

Aha... you know everything 🙂
But - regarding the initial one I remain curious. Can a non-Celebration 480 be worth 14500 GBP anywhere? Or does that one have something special?
Many thanks
Jacques.

The saying here is cloud cuckoo land, that's a ridiculous price for any 480, never mind an S which is the lowest spec. It would have to have an awful lot of very expensive modifications, but then most buyers prefer originality here. What the previous owner thought was a good idea isn't necessarily going to appeal to anyone else.

So, the same car is still around, but its price gets reduced in a quite systematic way. We are down to 12500 CHF (10100 GBP): https://www.comparis.ch/carfinder/markt ... w/26988115

It may turn out to be an interesting gauge of the "market" here, as it seems that the seller really wants to sell, so he may just continue reducing the price. Maybe he will find a buyer at 5000-6000 CHF...

There was an immaculate white 480 Turbo automatic for sale last year in Luzern. Only 51,000 kms and genuinely in perfect condition. I've spoken to the owner, a Dutchman who migrated to Switzerland, many times. But nobody wanted it.
It's still for sale, now from The Netherlands. € 10,950
