Well, based on the nice, uncracked dash and close to zero any other details, I'll take it!

Not the greatest write up as you say :D ! Which is a shame as it looks fairly clean otherwise.

looks tidy enough, but lights don't sit 'right'?

why no plates, I guess you need to phone to ask then get the MoT history (or not)?

I know Petrolblog is around that area, maybe worth an ask to see if he could scout it?

Honestly given the lack of progress with any of the other 480s currently for sale. I reckon I might have a go pursuing this one
Just need to find the registration first. Love the TT Paintjob.

They are smart, my favourite of all the SEs, lack of a plate is concerning however, as I always check the history before anything else

Hoping that a few messages should allow me to find out a bit about the history, anything flaring from the photos that anyone can see?

I noticed the Radio was asking for a code, and the dashboard looks a bit flakey, but other than that it looks quite straight.

The arches look like they need catching (unless that's as a result of a previous bad job - hopefully not if mileage is genuine).

Could just be that it's either been sat a long time or just come off a private plate, re: no plates.

I'd say, with lack of info, that it's likely been sat and needs MOT and the rest.... but, definitely worth a look once you get more info. :)

OSR arch looks to be starting to rust
NSR arch rusting
Radio missing code
filthy heater knobs
Cracked dashboard corner (sorry Edie!)
Petrol filler cap wonky
NS door pocket cracked
peeling cluster gauges
Seat belt button in Centre pocket.. Missing from one of them!
Chinese death circles fitted

Heyo everyone. Still need to find out some more about the car. But I can tell you all now that currrently it has no MOT.
I'm still very much interested in the car, but given its been about 5 years since the car last saw any real use on the road it is a bit concerning.

Honestly? I strongly suspect yet another wannabe Mike Brewer.

A car with no MOT for £2k? Nope, not a bloody chance.

its a sub £1000 car at moment - and that's WITH MOT.

12 months (independant) MOT, all faults rectified, Serviced (with cambelt) and maybe he can creep to his asking price....

What's the rest of the history look like?

I'm being sent through the rest of the history tomorrow. I'll find out more then. Ill poke around and ask about the state of the MOT, and whether or not thats being done.

Jeff you missed the nose cone badge! Got the wrong v on the front. So repaint for stone chips? Interestingly the v snapped off Snazzy's nose cone badge as well so maybe it's a weak point.

Hello everyone, apparently it was an old fellas car, and really needed a new part in the exhaust to get through an MOT, however this never happened, and since then the car was sat in a garage for a couple of years.

As it stands (From what I was told):
- 1 Headlight Stuck, drops slightly when ignition is off.
- Corroded Exhaust
- Surfact Rust on the Arches
- Hazard Lights are a bit sticky
- Tyres are all pretty naff
- Fuel Gauge does NOT work

They plan to sell it without an MOT, however how much is this worth without an MOT on it? Id personalyl like to take a look at it, but £2k seems far too steep for a car with no MOT, and what looks to me like £300-500 worth of work to get it back on the road.

My honest opinion?

They'd be mad to look to sell it without an MOT, and a buyer would be mad to pay £2000 for it without an MOT...

If they managed to get the car MOT'd what do you reckon then?

How far is the car from you? Within 30 minutes drive?
I'd treat the MOT as suspect until I could verify it. Does the new MOT have advisories?

Well given its last fail was about 2 years ago. I'd imagine there is a bit more than needs doing other than the jobs mentioned on the MOT Page.

The car is quite a drive from where I am, I don't too much mind travelling, but I really wouldn't want to pay over the odds for a car with no MOT that hasn't seen much road use.

I'll see what the history looks like when I get sent some over.

OK - let's start on the basis that it has a new, clean (ie no advisories) MOT. Assuming nothing's been done since the fail in 2015 that means rectifying all the failure points for starters. That means new exhaust and new tyres. You've been told the tyres aren't good by the seller. The headlights might be bulbs, or might be more fundamental wiring issue. Note that one headlight is stick up, you're told - so that is almost definitely a case of replacing the motor. It explains why no photos show lights down...

Given the length of time siting, it's highly likely it will need work to the brakes to pass the MOT - so factor in pads & discs all round plus handbrake cables, but calipers might be an issue too...

That front bumper's had a hard life I think: you can see front corner scuffing and it isn't sitting level (down at the wheel arches ends, so effectively pointing up in the air slightly), added to which are the missing centre Volvo badge and the fog-lights looking slightly wonky to me. Nothing that can't be fairly easily put right, but would make me want to check it isn't hiding any front end damage.

Jeff's list of issues looks pretty comprehensive to me, as well as Sylvia's point about the nose badge. None of those are much of a surprise - you'll be on the hunt for an intact door pocket and replacement gauge fronts (OK, they can come from non-working speedo and rev counter but even so...), plus a heater knob and seat belt buckle.

All that said, based on the photos alone I have seen far worse being sold.

As it stands, based solely on the faults we know about, you're looking at new exhaust, 4 tyres, a headlamp motor plus probably brake basics (be generous, assume for now calipers all ok). Depending on your choice of tyres and exhaust that's an easy £500 - £700 before you do anything else towards improving the car into a good example. Bear in mind that on top of fixing identified faults, if it's been doing nothing for 5 years it'll need a full service including belt change and coolant change and brake fluid change.

The Two-tone always looked great - never had one but always fancied one! - and generally this one looks a good basis for going forward subject to any further faults being found on closer inspection.

With a clean MOT, and all work mentioned above done to achieve that, I'd say between £1,200 and £1,500. As it stands with no MOT, assuming an inspection gives no reason to believe any more fundamental stuff is needed and you chance getting it through an MOT for the cost of bits mentioned above, it's £750 at tops, I'd say.

Hope that's fair and helps!

David
