Says it was listed 10 weeks ago so likely someone might have snapped it up already. Looks miles better than the one I've just picked up, do you guys think £1500 is reasonable? MOT history looks ok, although millage jumps from ~60,000 to ~120,000 between 2017-18... new dash?

Or here for those who sensibly steer clear of Facebook: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

Need to stope torturing myself by looking at what's out there on focus on my own 480 (aka the rust heap suffering from 20 years of neglect)

On second glance, does it look like the NSR wheel arch has been fillered/painted?

you sure it's a two litre, there should probably be an airbag at that vintage ???, unless a VERY early 'L' plate, our L plate is a two litre (sept regsitered) and has airbag etc

just saying..... it does look a WHOLE loads better than the red one, you need to actually see it.!!!!

reckon there are folks 'Yorkshire way'?

but nowt getting sold if folks can't move due to lock down?

never buY the first one you see, was / is a good adage, try an prod a couple of them, the front of rear wheel arch INSIDE is usually 'iffy' and might hide some horrers......

our SS1 went from his asking £750 to him selling at £350 when I attacked sills with a screwdriver! :-)

I bought the first one I saw and it is alright, but we knew what we were getting...

Darlington (which is in County Durham, not Yorkshire, as Alan should know since I know for a fact he's been there  ;) ) is not far from me. If you (or anyone else) is interested in the car I would be happy to go and look at it for you as soon as such frivolities as looking at cars for sale are allowed once again.

It doesn't look a bad example to me. Lack of stuck on anti-stone chip panels in front of the rear wheels usually means the rear arches have been replaced. Generally speaking it looks in good order inside and out (sagging headlining jumps out at me, but all looks good and clean).

Mileage changes do indeed suggest a replacement speedo - for many a much simpler option than opening it all up and replacing the cog...

L-reg was 1st Aug 1993 to 31st July 1994 - which was a bit of a transition time for the 480. That span of time covers both 1993 and 1994 models. A little research in the brochure library confirms that a 1993 ES model has multi-coloured velour interior, orange indicator lenses, a 2.0i engine, and the driver's airbag was an option (which clearly the original owner of this one didn't opt for!).

So as far as I can tell it all adds up - I suspect you'd find it was sold/registered pretty close to August 1993 - by 1994 (see GCooper's thread) you're looking at clear indicator lenses, half leather and airbag as standard...

I think you're very brave taking on the one you have, but certainly you'll spend far more getting that one even halfway to this one if it lives up to initial appearances!

Let me know about looking at it...

Just pulling your leg Alan - I know when you left that car park you couldn't wait to get north of the wall again, but I thought that was the effect of either me or the Travelodge...

"still waiting for clutch to be fitted" - that's a bargaining point right there.

Steering wheel cover - could be horrors beneath that!

Other than that, (and the previous mentioned points) it could be worth a proper look at; But for me it's not £1500 worth of car.

Although I was quite positive, I wasn't necessarily making any comment on the asking price!

I'd missed the point about the clutch  - there's a few hundred pounds worth of labour charges to be brought into the negotiations there, certainly.

I gave the benefit of the doubt and assumed that the steering wheel cover was simply to obtain the luxury of leather. I am not sure what can be wrong with it that would show in a photo and/or wouldn't be obvious from inspection (such as the wheel skin now being all flexy...(or am I missing something there too?)

Cheers guys! Believe me I don't intend to buy blind again... the one and only time I have ever done this and I certainly got a tad more than I bargained for (mostly water)

I've asked the seller if its still available... just to feed my curiosity :P If my engine turns out to be seized I'll be considering it much more seriously...

I think this one would look immaculate to you, simply because you'd be comparing it to what you've got at the moment ;) .

Price wise I think the main thing to factor in is the clutch - the fact it obviously needs a new one since this is with the car in itself should help with negotiation, but a further point is this: is the car currently mobile (albeit with a well-worn/difficult clutch) or is it going nowhere under its own steam until the clutch is fitted? If the latter you've also then got transport costs to consider...

It honestly looks factory-new compared to mine haha! Yeah clutch did give me reason to believe there would be some bargaining power there...

As for transporting it, I've already paid to shift on 480 this year... I'm not rushing to pay for another!
Having said that, if anyone does need to shift a car I used 'Shiply' recently... For those not familiar, you submit an ad on the site with the rough location to/from and the vehicle your moving, then transport guys offer you quotes. Better still, they can see what each other are quoting so (if you leave it a few days) they often knock their priced down to be the most competitive! My end quote was £140 less than the original! They're all star-rated and insured too!
