Low Mileage (??) Shed on eBay

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

Low Mileage (??) Shed on eBay

Post by Martin Mc » Fri Oct 09, 2020 3:59 pm

Hello folks,

I see there is a new arrival on eBay at the moment, in the shape of a 'low mileage' S with full leather, flat tyres and spiders https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-480ES- ... SwZo5ff01W

Now, it says it has 26K on the clock, and a quick MOT History check reveals it was last MOT'd in 2013, but with a historical record going back to 2006 when it appears to have had only 2K or so on the odometer - yes, I know, plenty of time before that for it to have had a speedo change etc.

Anyway, if it was a genuine low mileage car, with very little use over the years, perhaps it might be worth preserving...? It is in Ely (Cambs?) and I'm sure there are one or two of our fold in that neck of the woods. Might be worth having a looksee in any case, if in the vicinity.

It's appropriately priced in buttons as things stand, and worth your attention, dear folks :)

Lovely colour, but odd to see Pollux this late on, sad that it seems to be just abandoned on waste ground
Current Jobs to do (23/1/22):
Fix Central Locking
Fix drivers side speaker
Annoying Scratching Squeak
Water leaks
Complete Front O/S rebuild

My L reg ES had the speedo fail just after I bought it in 2001. It was changed for a new one by a Volvo dealer and much to my surprise came home with zero miles on the clock. Quite amazing considering how hot the law was on unscrupulous dealers 'clocking' cars. I have to think this one had a similar experience in the same period. That wear on the bolster didn't happen in much less than 100k miles.
James is in the area, but rusty wheel arches make it unsuitable for a rescue. Jeff's magic wand doesn't work on rust !

My Lily also has a replacement speedo done by Volvo. Careful note made of existing mileage in service book but the replacement started at 0.

The explanation for the Pollux wheels, Ben, is that the S had steel wheels and wheel covers, so replacement with older alloys is quite common on them.

Yes, it looks a bit of a shed - definitely a major project if taken on - but at least it's only shed money being sought, for a change!

ditto, and when advertised it was made clear about the extra 30k 'missing' !
too difficult to reset, although easy enough to wind on at 120mph with some pulses from a tone generator :-)
but would still take a fair bit of time to do that (about four days per 10000 miles?)

Seems this one went for £281 - that's not a bad price for a project or, indeed, a 480-shaped collection of spare parts!

Gone to anyone on here?

Looks like a no-hoper to me. Rear lights damaged. Rear wheel arches rotten and painted over. Door stop gone, driver door swings too far causing dent in the front wing. Interior badly worn and under a thick layer of soot. Etcetera...

It went for £287 in the end, so most likely another parts car. Sad, but I guess we all go that way at some point..

What a bleak thought for a Monday afternoon! Still, it could turn up on fleaBay soon as a 'barn find once in a lifetime low mileage only minus 30 of these on UK roads' example sometime soon too!

Watch out, there are some dodgy types about!
