Speaking of stupid prices, there's a German breaker who really thinks everything with Volvo on it is worth its weight in gold.
A 2 liter B20F engine with 230,000 kms (143,000 miles) on the clock ... 699 Euro! I can buy complete cars with lower mileage for that amount.

The one thing about these high price adverts is that it draws peoples attention to the 480.
I would be surprised if someone would pay the asking price but it will stick in peoples mind.

hanks totally appreciate what your saying but you have not seen the same car come on of the same age in white. 1988 This is a Volvo designed for comfort and safety is 10/10. If your comparing this too hondas and mazdas then it’s not for you. I can afford to keep it under a cover as it’s only going up in value. I’m happy to do something on the price but need to know where your at. Like I said in my advert if my price is met then il get the car looking mint. It’s going for a mot this week.

a, I can see it is nice and shiny. I remember a chum had one similar, though that might have been a Honda or even a MX5 (I think it had similar pop up headlamps).
About your price - is there bit of a typo perhaps? I've seen on eBay other good examples of this going for a lot less, including one recently that was about £5k for a 16k miles one owner unit. I'd be a bit nervous at your asking price for a car with 121K, no matter how rare or regardless of the £200 cover. Are you flexible on price? Be gentle with me, chum, I'm a bit new to this car game, but with the Covid thing one just can't trust public transport anymore, so independence is a must (in style, of course!)

I have all the old mots anything that’s been done I have all of it. I brought it off a guy who had it from 1993. I purchased it from Tunbridge Wells Kent. It’s a really nice example been under a £200 car cover kept dry. The guy really loved it and took car of it, it’s very rare there’s not another 1988 advertised anywhere in the uk not even on a classic site. It’s a very rare car

I shall restrain myself and ask just one question which I think actually goes to the heart of what this seller is all about - if this is such an excellent example, why is he only going to "get it mint" if his asking price is met?
I look forward to looking at the MOT outcome...

'SUD has been around before, i'd say that for a non runner that's a bit much, but if the clutch cable were fixed that'd be fair (its not a 'spectacular' example, though one I do like a lot)

I do hope not! I want to be able to use mine as a daily without fear of being car-jacked or having it nicked!

The thing that puzzles me most about all these recent valuations/prices is where do they come from? Are they just fishing and hoping to catch someone? Is it guesswork? Or does the’trade’ know something we don’t. Anyway it is nice to see a rise in values for our wedges but as been said we do not want to get into the ‘worth stealing’ bracket.

I've ranted long and hard about this; Its worth what someone is ultimately prepared to pay. I wouldn't pay more that £200 for it. However, Someone
may pay his asking price (and be very very disappointed, very quickly!).
I'd say a good condition to perfect condition 480 is £5-6k, simply based on the fact that it'd cost around that much to get them there....
Think about this:
Ask your friendly scrap man what he'd pay - He's looking at the car in terms of scrap steel.
Ask the bloke who's dad's car it once was? Could be priceless to him.
Wonder boy trader paid £400 for it - That's the minimum it's worth to him. He's trying to cash in on the rarity of it, hoping someone bites. He'll kipper the arches, bent MOT, total cost, £600. Anything above that is pure profit. So even if you haggle down to 5k and think you're getting a shrewd deal, he's still done you over.

I think you are about right Jeff. At the end of the day it’s worth what someone is willing to pay. It also shows that as long as you know what you are looking for and more importantly at, you are far better buying privately from someone who has cared for the car and has the history for it. I hope our trader does not fish and catch someone out with this ES. Your probably right about the dodgy MOT as well going by the last one it needs a lot doing to it.
