Possible sale of Celebration 467

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

The sale to Martin (congrats), has foiled my grand plan of having two 480s without swmbo knowing. They are both burgundy N reg cars and because she does not look at cars too closely I had a chance she would not notice! Unlikely I know but you never know!!
that would make life very easy with MoT, tax etc.

one number plate two cars????

just make sure that you don't have both visible at same time . . . ..

Sorry to foil your masterplan Norman!

Have to admit, Martin drove off with a big grin on his face...I think he's happy!

I have to say I am delighted with Nilani, having toddled back to Lancashire via the twisty back roads, to give her a good run.Big grin on my chops the whole way!

Now, of course, that poses the age old 'embarrassment of riches' problem - which 480 to use??? :)

Image

Both are lovely to drive, and in very good shape.... choices, choices!! :hopping:

Mind you, I think it is more likely that 'Lilani' (in blue) might need to move on :( If anyone is interested..?

Thanks David - I'm a happy man this evening !

Goes without saying, of course ;)

Lost the speedo and odometer (again) today - had just nipped out for a spin, went round a small roundabout and the needle dropped back to zero... I know David replaced a cog in the speedo recently, so am thinking it's probably not that... I had the airbox out and looked at the connectors below (having consulted various threads first I might add) but nothing looked amiss. Not sure what the next steps might be - any hints & tips gratefully accepted.

What are you doing to her?? I won't let you keep her if you're just going to break her!! ;)

Not had that problem in all the time I've had her. If you can get in and under the dashboard, reach up and push the connector (can't remember if it's the green or grey one, but I think it's the one on the centre console side of the steering column, which IIRC is easier to get at) firmly into the back of the instrument panel. Slight wiggle as you push - make sure it's right home.

If solder is starting to go somewhere on the rear circuit board then it won't be the permanent answer but I kept the speedo on previous Celeb 73 fine for about 4 years doing that on the odd occasions.

BTW, your coolant is at the minimum on the blue one... :D

They look a great pair sitting there nose to nose!

Well folks, it is time to revive Nilani and ease her slumbering frame from beneath her protective covers in the Father in law's gagage, and off for her MOT tomorrow.

I've only done about 800 miles since taking her back from the superlative care of David 'DC' Walker, and am hoping to enjoy her somewhat more this year. Will post the results of the test at some point tomorrow - fingers crossed that her rear-end issues (advisories last year) haven't got any worse... ;)

All the best!

Dang! I did something sooooo stupid just now.. I was cleaning under the bonnet, where dust had accumulated around the bulkhead / bottom of the windscreen whilst in storage, and I caught the driver's side washer nozzle and broke it clean off :(

Now I can't get the supply to poke back through the little hole it is supposed to, and I don't think I can re-attach the windscreen washer nozzle - I sense a desperate fumbling going on first thing in the morning, ahead of a potential disappointment on the MOT front and lightening of the wallet £££ to sort this out.

Has anyone else had to replace front washer nozzles, and is there a simple way to get at the set up ? It all seems to be out of reach behind the windscreen wiper mechanisms and motor...can't reach under to get a grip of the lower nozzle assembly.. Hellllpppp!!! :badmood:

I've managed to get the lower part of the nozzle back through the hole this morning, but of course it isn't anywhere stable enough to accept the top half to mate up. Am going to try to get something underneath so I can make a join, but running out of time before the MOT appointment now...

Remember for an MOT, it doesn't HAVE to be stable - as long as it can through an adequate amount of water on the screen, your fine.

One of the reasons I went for defender nozzles is that they're twin jet - Worse case scenario, you cover both sides of the screen with one nozzle!

If you're stymied, try the following.
Items required: plastic washer tubing, NRV, soft-wire / tie-wraps (fine).
Take the washer tubing (length from broken pipe to top end of wiper-blade + a bit more for flexing) and punch small holes along it.
Connect to the broken-off tube and secure to the wiper-blade.
Block the open end of the pipe.
Now you have a washer that doesn't squirt a dollop onto the windscreen but one that feeds water the length of the sweeping blade.
Adjust so that the washer water feeds onto the screen in front of the wiper-blade.
Had this arrangement on (I think) my old Zephyr.

Martin

Have a close look at the passenger side nozzle...I think it was on Nilani that I broke a nozzle and was able to use a very small screw to re-fix the upright part to the base. There is quite a bit of thick plastic to play with and you may be able to do the same - just depends exactly where the break is.

I'd certainly recommend just removing the wiper mechanism while you sort out this problem - it avoids lots of extreme fiddling about that only risks breaking things again!

Good luck - shout if I can help; you've got my details.

And BREATHE!!!!

Straight pass with no advisories! Quite a relief I have to say :)

Thanks David for the tips on a workaround - in the end my running repair seems to have done the job. I have bought a pair of the Landrover nozzles though, and will be replacing the ancient spray tackle in due course. I will need to find the time to strip down the windscreen wiper assembly, but it will surely be worth it in the end.

Here she is Just back from the MOT garage...:hopping: Well, after a 20 mile spin out, for giggles! Oh how I've missed the giggles!

I can't let go of a 480 that easily, so there is now a very happy ex-owner this side of the Pennines too

Thanks David,

To be fair the rear end is starting to bubble a bit around the arches, so next year (or maybe over winter) the dreaded Skandix replacement inner and outer arches may be purchased and added, with a respray to bring the paint up to a better standard.

I've had fun driving her today though! Any meetings coming up?? :) :) :)
