Now it's getting silly!

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

Hmm, yes, I wonder how quickly that will fly off the shelf at that price?

Am guessing it will be hanging around for a good while. I know Gort - it is a small town on the West side of Southern Ireland, between Limerick and Galway, quiet and not much going on there other than farmers markets (although not at the moment). I'd be suspicious about the condition, even though it looks very good - Ireland's roads are notoriously bad, away from the main population centres, and of course it does rain quite a lot, so unless the car has only been used in dry weather, it will have had its fair share of deggings. Plus, there are lots of other reasons that the car will have had a harder time than a UK based equivalent. For example, the economic downturn after 2008 hit the Irish economy hard, with many folks losing homes and property, which led to less money being spent on day to day transport. Cars in Eire are often not maintained as well as in the UK either, with the MOT equivalent being a two year cycle, rather than 12 months. Any prospective purchaser will need to check the credentials of the seller, as well as the provenance of the car, before parting with a fraction of the ridiculous price-tag flapping around on this one.

I can't say I've ever seen a wedgie whilst in Ireland (I lived in Galway for several years), other than the car I brought back this new year, though I did have a genuine enquiry for one of mine that I sold several years back (same colour as this car, but not a Celeb) from a gent on the East side.

If there is anyone over there willing to check it out it might be worth a look - but not at that kind of crazy money.

What was going through my mind

People need to get it out of their heads that these are the next Capri. They will rise yes, but £9k is always going to be too much in my opinion, I think 6k will be the height of sensibility if they ever get that far. It was always a quirky model, no Motorsport pedigree, sporty yes but always a bit of an underdog, styling is of its time (perhaps a little behind even) and certainly isn't "I C O N I C" so I really can't see these getting much past 6k for the top models.

As I have said many times before, one of the things I love about the 480 is that it goes to show just how good you can get for not much money at all, a (fairly) reliable, useable modern classic daily or a quirky curious toy

£10k; Not exactly the best set of photos, Registration number not visible. Lower front spoiler missing.

At least at KGF (did that £5k car ever sell?) you get a series of good photos and a video.

I'd say the price is incredibly optimistic, but hey, it's a shop window and people are talking about it, so it's a good way to advertise!

As Jeff has said very limited pics. Would like to have seen rear lights and arches at least. It's big money similar to the white ES for sale earlier this year, did that sell and how much for I wonder? I think it will be quite some time before wedges are fetching this sort of prices. My celeb which is in pretty good nick and totally original was less than a quarter of this when I purchased last year.

The white ES eventually sold on Ebay for £1,315

Anyone remember what they were originally asking?

It's both the location and the reputation of the 480 that makes this car unsaleable, even if you slice the price in half, even if there is no coronavirus.

There's an immaculate Volvo 480 GT Turbo for sale in The Netherlands, same mileage, always stored dry, well maintained. It has been posted for sale 3 years ago for 15k Euro, price has dropped below 10k EUR (8,750 GBP) and still no one wants it.

Why the 480 won't be the next Capri? Way to modern (1960s vs 1980s technology) with electronics that can, and will fail. Poor build quality. Much lower volume. No support from Volvo. No spares. (I'd rather drive a 480 though)
Robert.

Present cars: 1994 Volvo 480 GT 2.0i, 1999 Volvo S70 2.5 Europa, 2010 Volvo V70 2.0F Momentum

Yup, already watched it. And I can see why the car sold - I think if I was in a similar situation, I'd have probably done the same.

Unless there was another strange blip in the chassis numbers, this can only be Celebration 343.

Wonder where the plaque went? Was it ever fitted? There seems to be no marks on dash in the usual place. Wonder if it's still in the car somewhere.
