1994 480 S on eBay

Hi All,

I think this has been for sale for some time at a strong fixed price, but has now gone to auction - and I cant find a reserve.

Perhaps Covid lockdown means someone wants to clear their stock....

Clicketh here.....

Looks tidy.

It looks like a base model 'S'... so no front fogs... but then someone has ticked the option boxes like leather - and I think a trip computer? Wasn't the 'S' the entry level with analogue fuel / temp gauges?

So in theory, could you get a fully loaded 'S' if you ticked all the option boxes and if so, did that make financial sense over an ES? Can't figure out the rationale.

Hope everyone is keeping sane out there. I'm stuffed because I need materials...

Almost looks as if someone got a 1.7 ES with all those bits on, but it needed a new tailgate so got one from an S

Ah, the infamous lakes car.....

Wonder what it’ll fetch? I too thought the S was the lowest of the low, so leather, 2.0 litre and infocentre all seem weirdly out of place! Shame we’re in lockdown as I’d love to give it a thorough once over....

'Investment Opportunity'

Looks like the pop ups are popped, but otherwise very tidy and if I hadn't shot myself in the wedgie over New Year I would be sorely tempted, :boom: :boom: especially as my first was all white too.

I can imagine Maeve's reaction if i rocked up with another..

It is definitely an S, no front fogs and no switch for them.
The leather interior is probably original as it has the correct carpets, also got an airbag steering wheel. Seems odd to have expensive extras on an S, but then perhaps the buyer couldn't afford an es with leather interior. The climate control is a figment of the seller's imagination though
Infamous because Lakes thought it was worth a huge amount of cash. We saw it when they first got it and asked if they were going to break it - he was quite horrified and assured me it was worth at least 10k.!!

I thought the Lake’s car was an auto and about 40-50k Miles. Apart from low miles and good bodywork it looked shit.

Yes, right now I have to be careful with washing the rear window as to not squirt a cyclist or driver behind

Once we’re out of lockdown, I’ll check at the toy shop, I’m fairly certain I’ve got one

Hello all.

I was the lucky bidder on this particular 480 and after a brief inspection it was driven 101 miles back from Derby without anything alarming issues reported.

As others have said, it seems someone ticked all the options on this S, and so far, most of it works apart from the speedometer... Quite a big issue I thought at first, but after reading some of the helpful guides on here I'm confident I can get it working. Largely because the car also came with a spare dash cluster (and also a spare brand new allot wheel!).

Overall everything else seems to work fine and be in very good condition. The electric mirrors didn't work but that turned out just to be the fuse, and I haven't yet had a chance to test the heated seats because white frankly it's been too hot to notice!

Little history came with the car, but so far everything seems pretty good - the interior is in especially good condition and whilst the engine bay isn't clean, there's no signs of previous coolant splashes or oil leaks.

Earlier today I took the battery tray out as the previous battery clamp had obviously failed at some point and a hasty bodge of cable ties and a metal bar were holding it in. I fashioned a new clamp and it looks rather smart, even if i do say so myself!

I may start a thread for the car, if anyone would be interested?

Please do start a thread, every 480 should have one !!
Welcome to the club and wedge ownership. Lots of knowledgable people on here very happy to help out with problems, you only have to ask.
The car looks in generally nice condition, hope you enjoy it.

Welcome aboard and absolutely start a thread!

Drop me a PM if you need a speedo cog, as I keep them in stock. (it's 99% of the time the reason for speedo not working)

I'd recommend replacing the earth clamp along with all the earth leads, adding some extra ones in for good measure; See my volt drop thread here

Thanks for the pointers! I'd already stuck a cog on my watch list on eBay. Any idea about the sensor connector for the speedo? Picture on the how to thread is down.

Thanks,

Ben

the sensor lives in the gearbox, on the nearside. The wire comes up the N/S chassis leg, and usually terminates near the airbox. It's the conenctor that usually causes problems, rarely the sensor.

Round plug, two wires. I'll see if I can find you a picture. (but as all mine are turbos, there's a small chance it'll be different).

And thinking about it, it could be that - Speedo cog normally stops the Odometer clocking up, not the speedo!

so here's the plug - on this turbo it's at the back of airbox, in front of the ABS pump
