'93 White Turbo - eBay

Not often a 480 comes up for sale in one's home town, unfortunately (or fortunately) I already have two and I'm very happy with them. I saw a white 480 on the roads in Oxford a couple of times a few years ago, but haven't seen it since. Willing to bet that it was this one since the seller says it doesn't get out much except for meets and shows (but not ours?? :? )

Might get in touch with the seller (just for a chat of course!), particularly if anyone's interested and would like to know more as Oxford is a small place so it can't be far. Also generally speaking I'm not a veedub enthusiast at all, but I do rather like the look of the Scirocco he has in his other listings!

Low mileage but a high price for a car with ‘rusty wheelarches’

I am very sure the advertised mileage isn't the actual mileage, the car may have done at least 100,000 more.

The condition of the car, with its damaged front spoiler, scuffed bumper edges and rusty wheel arches, doesn't correspond to a mileage of only 36k. (There is no picture of the rear lights, and I would not be surprised if they were in poor condition if you look at the front light units)

The MOT failed in 2007 (with only 3,005 miles!) on excessive free play on steering, current MOT has an advisory on oil leaks, with 35,829 read from the odometer. MOT history starts in 2006 with only 1,149 miles.

So I guess the odometer has been changed around 2005.

Think I need to up my prices!

Are they the right wheels? Look like the 14's when it should have 15's. Although, for £2300 I'd be expecting a whole lot more pictures too!

Nope, that's the same wheels as my '91 Turbo (Atlas?)

Should have Taurus by that age of car.

Not as far as I know, although I'd be happy to get in touch with the seller if you're interested but not local (although note well the very valid caveats raised by the esteemed members above).

I think I'd have trouble dealing with someone who is unable to work out that their car has had a new speedometer sometime in its life and isn't low mileage at all. It looks a bit shit and bashed about.

If it was an ES it would be about £500 or more likely never sell, like the current crop on eBay that no one wants. Maybe £1000-1500 in its current state and only because it is a manual turbo which are a great drive. Rusty arches will only get worse and realistically you should set aside at least £1000 to fix them properly.‎

Oh!
frilly arches, saturated boot mat (assumed by rusty coloured jack kit, rust stains on boot floor where rear spring sits and most difficult , the area around screen/top door.

so 'not top notch' ? ? ? all fixable though, but still extra DiY work

a fairly stiff asking price maybe? white always shows rusty marks (except on white SS1 ;) )

I ended up going to look at this after losing the Wolf to rust.. I wasn't to fussed about the mileage aspect, a manual turbo in white was the pull for me...
To be brutally honest the car looks like new inside apart from 2 split door pockets and the heater slider which I am sure the air just eats it away.. The pedals, seats and carpet have no wear on them at all even the roof lining is good.. It is just surface rust on the arches thankfully....
It has been bashed about though, wishbone was bent and snapped on me, luckily I was just turning around in the car park outside mine.. There is also something else bent and when you try and oversteer it the steering wheel starts banging!!!
The instrument cluster also is knackered and will be sent to Brinkie as soon as I can...
Apart from the cluster all the electrics work for now..

It will be going to the garage soon to sort the brakes and faulty front steering out... Then the Roboumod and updated dump valve and 10mm spark plug leads will be installed...
I really do miss driving a 480, I can't think of a better handling car from the era and the looks you get in them makes me smile...
I will update my diary "The wolf roams" as soon as any progress is made..

I have to get the cluster sent off soon but apart from that all seems well, so far...

Glad to hear you're finally on the road! :D

Dare I ask whether it was a positive and fulfilling experience...?

It is good to be back in the wedge that's for sure :D

It felt weird having headlights at head height again, so comfortable though...

It's needs a bit of work done to the steering as its a little to stiff , brakes need doing as well....
Boosts good, halfway into the yellow... Once the car handles and stops properly I will swap the ecu over for the one modded by Robou :kill:
Then time to get the arches repaired... Luckily I have not found any water inside the car so fingers crossed on that one..
To be continued
Jay
