Hi guys, I am currently on the lookout for a 480 to buy as my first car! Has anyone got one they are looking to sell? I am based in the south west of England, but I am able to travel.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome!

Good luck with your search. I presume you are 18-ish? Hopefully you'll be ale to get Classic Car insurance at that age. Might be worth checking.

If you haven't already, you can set up a search with https://www.newsnow.co.uk/classifieds/

. They will send a daily email with listings on various websites.

Hope this helps and you find a good one soon!

Thanks, the insurance on these isn't all that high. It's actually more or less the same as what my friends pay on corsas and polos! As for the classic car insurance, most companies seem to want you to be slightly older to apply. I will have a dig around though!

Classic car insurance tends to have other restrictions as well age. Some or all of the following may also apply depending on the company you use and this is certainly not a full list as many things normally covered on a standard policy may not be included.

Age restricted (driver and car)
Mileage restricted (mine was 5000/year but does vary)
Any NCD you have won’t apply
You don’t earn NCD
You must have use of another vehicle (your classic car is not supposed to be your only/daily car)

Good luck with your search, there are a few on e-bay at the moment.

Apart from insurance, reserve a considerable amount of money and time to keep the car on the road. A 480 seems cheap in purchase, but lack of spare parts, mediocre build quality and bad rustproofing in some places can make it difficult and expensive to maintain.

Hi MrMerci,

congratulations on your choice, I remember buying my first 480 at age 17 :D They are awesome fun cars, but also at least 23 years old - and since they are a bit prone to rust or quirky electronics and that parts can be a bit hard to come by compared to your average 13-in-a-dozen car it has to be a very conscious decision to buy a Volvo 480.

When looking around you should be able to find good condition 480 among what's for sale, take your time to look around and read yourself into buyers guides and tips to identify weak spots. After that you can have a really nice 4-seater to enjoy and stand out from the crowd :D
