You can't blame them for trying!!

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

Beautiful turbo for sale........but at a price!

https://www.carpenters.co.uk/used-vehic ... Auto-U192/

I know prices are on the rise, but this must be double what any 480 has ever been sold for.

By the way, does anyone know what the highest price paid for a 480 has been?

Has been posted before but we had no pics last time....

10k and it's got grubby heater controls?? I'll pass thanks.

they say "We purchased the vehicle a couple of years ago and have spent many man hours bring the car back to its original condition and getting everything working correctly"

I can certainly pick up more than a fair few faults with it's current state.

Yes, it is a very nice looking example, but no way is it worth anything like that

Broken dashboard surround, grotty heater control buttons, misaligned front bumper on O/S wing and a driver's seat in need of attention all jump out immediately.

And they can't even get the technical information right - since when did a 480 turbo only have 90bhp? Should be 120...

I'd echo Frenchfries though - if anyone wants Lily for £10,000 or, given her arches need doing, a bargain £9,000, I am happy to listen - still no guarantees of selling though!!

I think the sellers optism reflects the current classic car market, but it seems that £3k is still about the top end for the 480 currently.

Modern classic prices have skyrocketed recently, probably due to the ever increasing prices of 1960/70s classics, and the ever increasing age (and financial spending power) of grown-up 1980s teenagers like me.

I'm not interested in a Capri or a Triumph TR etc. as they don't mean anything to me, but an RS Turbo or Audi Quattro, then now you are talking my langauge. These were my bedroom wall poster cars!

Dealers are rightly cashing in on the nostalgia boom, so websites like Stone Cold Classics (http://stonecoldclassics.com) seem to do OK selling quality modern classics at top end prices.

My local Volvo independent has a Volvo 240 for sale (https://www.volvoatwrights.co.uk/used-c ... vo-240/106). It's absolutely immaculate and I'd love to have it, but at £13K, it's a non-starter. I guess they only need one person, but I know they've had it a while and reduced the price.

I think the truth is that if this £10k 480 was was an XR3i or Golf GTI it would sell in minutes, but as it's a niche model like the 480, it wont. To be honest, I'm happy with that, as it's never been about the value.

I think you are right, zapcity.

Certainly it's a nostalgia thing - at the risk of showing my age (49, to prevent anyone speculating ;) ) I love the 480 because I had one in the early 90's when they were current and always wanted to recapture that experience. But if I had the money, what I'd really like would be either an Escort RS2000 (as per Doyle in the Professionals), a Triumph Stag, or the Rover Vitesse (SD1). Fully restored the Escorts go for a fortune, and the Stags for a smaller fortune, and for some bizarre reason I just always liked those wedge-shaped Rovers, even though they were complete rust-buckets!

Ho hum - think I'll stick with the Volvos!!

SD1 - so cool (and rusty!) in the day!! :hopping:

Similar - had a choice in the early 90's of a black 480 turbo or a Nissan 100NX. The T-bar roof did it for me and I purchased the Nissan. Well you can't get it right everytime!! Always regretted not buying that 480. :(

I paid £4k (or £5k, can't remember) for a 1988 480ES a few years ago (2008 or 2009 I think). It had 8000 miles on it and was basically brand new. It was perfect. I regret seelling it sooooo‎ much! Rather horrifically it is no longer registered so it is either crashed, off the road or has had a private plate put on it.

That's probably the highest paid‎ for a while

I'd show you the pictures, but obviously Photobucket are still dicks‎
