How'd you fellow 480 owners!
I'm in a bit of a pickle and need this part ASAP. My smaller fan belt snapped on my 480. Now, the belt configuration is different from the standard set up as I have air-con as the smaller belt drives the a/c unit and the power steering pump.
So, to my knowledge it was always there to correct the tension of the smaller fan belt, but my mechanic has informed me it is not..
So... Does anyone have a tension nut, or tension assembly going spare? If so, I need it quickly as my 480 is also my daily ride.
Cheers,
Will

I am slightly confused: I understand the set up - I have aircon too - so are you saying that the whole tensioner bracket at the front of the alternator is missing? What kept it in the correct place before then? Something must have done if the belt was there and working before it snapped...
I don't understand how it could suddenly just not be there - it's all well built in together down there!
Not trying to be rude, but does your mechanic know what he is looking for and where to find it? Or is he just finding that adjusting the tensioner on top of the power steering pulley isn't moving the alternator (which, indeed, it won't) and not appreciating that he needs to look further down? Do you know for yourself it's missing?

Re: Wanted : Alternator tension nut/assembly, 2.0ltr auto
Hi David,
I have never noticed the tensioner before. However the fan belt gave way last year and I got it replaced and no one said about a tensioner being missing, or not there...
The fan belt had always squealed from start up, to running a/c or growing down the gears. To me, it sounds like it was perhaps never there in the first place as the car had "some work" done before I bought it from a volvo specialist in 2014. God knows how it stayed in position, but, I can only go on what the mechanic has told me and shown me.

Thanks Will
That's completely fair enough! I have to say it's an odd one...
I'm afraid it's not something I've got a spare of but maybe someone on here can help you out soon.
Good luck!

is this the adjuster which (should) be tucked in at front of alternator, on mine there is a small 'kink' in the hose so that you can get a socket drive direct onto the end of the adjusting nut? (thoughtful bunch VOLVO )
I'll have a look cos I'm sure I have (had) a spare. If i find it I'll send a photo and you can confirm if it is said item, but if it's missing how will you know? ? ? ?
most cars I've had simply rely on the nut being 'torqued-up' on the adjustable slot to prevent the belt moving alternator so the Volvo one looked a bitty OTT
