Spotted for sale

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

Don't know the car, although as you say it doesn't look bad in the photos.

I do know the website though and have, in fact, sold two cars through it over recent years. No reason to believe it is any more or less liable to questionable sellers etc than any other way such as ebay or autotrader etc.

All I will say, though, is that the advert seems familiar to me - it's the reference to the "crates" of spares, I think. I note the seller has only joined pre-loved in Feb 2017, so maybe he/she bought the car last time around?

MOT history looks good - No mentions of corrosion (that's no Guarantee there isn't any!)

Mileage goes wonky around 2010 (dashboard replacement likely), then again in 2014.

Definitely worth having a look over - is it local to you?

Two tones have got better with age and those GT wheels, in my opinion, are the best ever fitted!

How bizarre, have literally just logged on to report a 'spotted' sighting from earlier today but curiosity led me to check out this post first.......and what do you know, it's an advert for the very same car!

Spotted today at Wigan North Western railway station. Wasn't close enough to really advise on condition but it looked pretty respectable.

Now I'll go and post it in Spotted! as well!

And here it is advertised on carandclassic.co.uk back in 2014....

http://m.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C532094

(Interesting bit of 'spin' there in the last sentence - "no ABS + no airbags = no worries" - whoever wrote that should be a politician!)

Given it was on 133k and the latest ad doesn't mention mileage I'm guessing it's going to be pretty high by now, still if its been well looked after and the bodyworks good....

only 166,000 on the advert.

no reply as yet a phone number would have been handy.

Glad I wasn't imagining seeing it for sale before!

Certainly looks worth a look for someone - the two-tones were very of their time, but I always liked them!

I always thought the two-tones were equipped with 1.7 litre engines, with some rare exceptions having a Turbo engine. Could be a custom paint job. Those Vesa wheels definitely look good, I have the same on my car now, after looking for them for 2 years!
As it is a 1993 2 litre model, chances are the engine is the infamous "red dipstick" which means it needed a modifcation fitted by dealers, to prevent high oil consumption (and some consume oil anyway). I would definitely check that.

I have a 2 litre ES with the aforesaid 'infamous' red dipstick engine, and I wouldn't change it for a green dipstick one for anything. Been driving it since 2001, and it's going nowhere without me. Well worth the modest amount of oil it consumes to have all that bottom end grunt !!
Hubby liked it so much, he bought a GT not realising that the green dipstick meant a different version of the engine, and he was well disappointed. So much, that he bought a turbo and spoke nicely to brinkie !

The two-tones never had the turbo engine fitted - they were essentially an ES with a different paint scheme and a different interior trim.

However, they straddled the time when the N/A 1.7 gave way to the 2.0, so there were both engine sizes. Easy external way to tell was that the 1.7's said "Limited Edition" down underneath the RHS light cluster, whereas on the 2.0 it was moved over to be under the LHS light cluster, and a "2.0i" badge was put under the RHS light, as with other 480s for a time.

I love the Vesa wheels and have them on my GT, but I must admit though that on the two-tone I think the originally fitted grey Taurus wheels look better.

Each to their own!

I know of at least two examples of Turbo-Two-Tones. They weren't even available in The Netherlands, where also the Two Tone was introduced to get rid of the stock of 1.7 litre engines before the introduction of the 2 litre engine.

About the 2 litre with red dipstick, the early production had a fault causing excessive oil consumption, which was rectified with a dealer-fitted modification. But some cars were never serviced by the dealer and never got the modification. So it's best to check if they consume oil. I once test-drove a 480 with aforementioned engine which did.

Fair enough :) - I am only going on my own (UK) experience, the brochures that I have, and what I was told when I enquired about one at the time they came out.

I too was advised that they were intended to get rid of the last of the 1.7 engines.

my 2litre GREEN dip stick uses some oil so interested to know what the 'dealer-mod' was. I reckon ours is a heavy breather, but may be due to mileage?

is the mod listed on here?

The "red dipstick" B20F-116 (manual) or -118 (auto) engine used in MY 1993 has cylinder cooling using oil sprayers in the piston. There was a modification done by Volvo dealers to address the high oil consumption, but they still kept the red dipstick (which was standard anyway, the 1.7 litre engines also have red oil dipsticks)
The "green dipstick" B20F-208 (manual) or -209 (auto) engine used in MY 1994 and 1995 has a different design, where the oil sprayers were omitted.
See http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/forum/v ... =11&t=7672 and http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/forum/v ... 11&t=18169

Most of the oil consumption comes from leaking oil seals anyway. The car marks its territory

Still no message back via the preloved site.

After 10 days I wonder if it is sold. :( I have sent the seller another message so hope to hear something.

You would think that a cared for example like this that the owner would be on the forum.
