480 ES for sale

Hi Everyone,

I need to get rid of a volv0 480 on behalf of my grandad. It would be a shame to see it go to the scrap yard given its age and mileage - so it may be of interest to someone on here or for spares?

I cant see that I can post pictures on here, but I can email them if their is interest.

would you guys so kindly tell me what it may be worth or is it worth just scrapping?

Hello Ben,

A lot depends upon the condition of the body and the quality of the service history.

If you look on the dreaded eBay, cars of that age have gone in recent months for very little money (sub £500 in some instances) but with a long MOT (which I see your Grandad's car has) there might be some scope. Also, have a look on Car & Classic, as there are often 480's for sale on there, at a range of prices.

Definately not for scrapping!

The main factor as to whether you will get any money and a good home quickly would be if the rear wheel arches are rusty. If they're not, happy days. If they are, hopefully it will find a home with someone who would be willing to fix them. Low miles are in your favour definitely.

Is that Arctic Blue? Very rare, even here in the country where the 480's were born, there are only a handful left in that colour and they do stand out on every meeting. 88k miles = 142,000 km is not exceptionally low but still very decent. As already said, if the body is solid, the car is worth preserving.
By the way, please do check when the cambelt has been changed the last time. If it's more than 6 years ago, do tell the prospective buyer and don't take the car out for a test drive or you could end up with a snapped belt and subsequently destroyed cilinder head.

Welcome. 

That car went to a dealer who specialises in '80's cars. I imagine it is ‎going to be for sale again at a vastly inflated price. He did well though and beat me to it! 

Hopefully it will raise the 480's profile if it goes for a decent price. 

Either way, I imagine it will find a good home eventually. ‎
