Chris I "mot"ed that car when I had it and nothing like that ever came up.

Check the previous mot history at this site yourself.

http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/html/home.html

Sometimes the mot station can go overboard on a car recently I took a cheapy mot on my own car and they came up with an enormous list of advisories 27 or 28 sheer lunacy and a long list of stuff that boiled down to .......

dead lambda sensor
backbox replacement
cv gaiter duffed
new set of pads
front link pin

2 days later job done went to a sensible mot station and bobs you uncle passed.

well you can't blame Jim can you?!

When he sold the car, it had a new MOT and was in working order. Since then, a year and 2 owners have passed. These are old cars and things are likely going to fail at once. You really can't point fingers after such an amount of time and use.

A lot can change over the space of a year, hence the yearly MOT.

These cars take work to keep them nice.

I didn't know about the VOSA web site. I'm going to check mine out just for fun.

I thought that any car bought privately, second-hand would be "sold as seen". I know every car I've ever bought, has been.

Personally, I'd interpret that to mean that if I bought a car, and then found problems after purchasing it, they were now my problems, and it was my own fault for not spotting them afterwards.

... and I speak from my own personal experience of the (cheap) MGF I bought, where the head gasket blew within a month of ownership (I know, I know). The previous owner had said at the time I bought it, that they'd never had any problems with the head gasket, and I stupidly believed them. However, I bought the car privately, so it was sold-as-seen. I'd seen the car, and chosen to buy it. In doing so, I bought it, and any problems that it had or developed were now mine.

I don't see how you can complain about the condition of a car, a year after you bought it (and have presumably been driving it around), and imply that the previous owner should be responsible for the problems. If as you imply, the problems were there when you went and looked at the car, and yet you still decided to buy it - that's your own fault!

Surely that list of things would have made you think "maybe I shouldn't buy this car". - But yet you still did, and complain?

I think you've successfully managed to do this, all by youself!

I think even I could spot something like the seat not being attached before putting it in for an MOT!

More or less any car is worth scrap value without an MOT. I reckon you would have a better chance of selling it on eBay, counting your losses as a learning curve and move on!

Nobody has insulted anyone; everyone has simply contributed an opinion, which may not be that popular, but you can't simply lock it up because of an opinion.

FYI, if I had the know-how and available driveway space, I'd love a project 480 in a second, and the one in this thread sounds like a spot-on candidate.

please keep you oppinons to yourself you are not fit to have a 480 and dont deserve the right to be within a 10 mile radiouse of one your a patronising pig and to say that 2 car with perfect engins and boxes 1 of witch wil defo pas an mot with a lower arm is stupid you know as well as me the engine at a scrapp would be £200 min each and if i do send it scrap ill blow them both the fuck up 1st and break every panle so nothing is of use to any 480 owner that spots it
By the way, I don't have a 480 any more, but have have had 3, over 4 years. I'd consider myself a 'veteran' of the the forum (I still remember the forum from the days when it was hosted on vBulletin!), so would like to think my experience and opinion should count for something as far as 480's go!

I didn't say that. At least read what people write before you accuse them of saying things.
