1991 480 Turbo, 75k, Paris Blue, Manual

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

1991 480 Turbo, 75k, Paris Blue, Manual

Post by Dan the 480 Man » Wed Feb 18, 2009 7:44 pm

Hi people.

My Dad's seriously considering selling his 480. He say's it's a shame for it to be sitting in the garage, only going to Asda once a week, with maybe one or two long trips in a month. I was hoping to inherit it, but as a property is top of the priorities, I can't be thinking about another 480.

Basically, my Dad has seen another car he likes-but he's not in the position to be able to buy this other one and then hope to sell the 480, so he's testing the water. He is actually going to test drive this other car Sat, so he wants to see what sort of feedback he gets here.

Ok, the spec:

-1991 480 Turbo, 75k. Full dealer history upto about 57k, then a service at independent garage at 62k, then he serviced himself. He's had it 6 years, so thats not many miles!

-It's got a set of unmarked refurbished Pictors.

-Clear front indicators with clear wing repeaters and clear rear side markers

-New cambelt '06 (miles approx at time 72k)
at same time also had new aux belt, new dizzy cap & rotor arm, 4 new tyres, Turbo overhaul at M.R King (main Volvo dealer), new Lambda sensor, new rear exhaust).

-Recent service (done 400 miles since)

-Just been taxed (6 months)

-New clutch last year (late '08, September)

-Sony CD player (have Volvo original)

-Receipts coming out of his ears!

It's also got the Rainbow pinstripe interior. The dash has cracked as they all do. But other than those things (indicators, radio, 440 alloys), it's standard, and it's mint. No rust on the arches at all, the underside of the car is really really clean. I believe my Dad's the 3rd owner-it was a Volvo demonstrator, the branch manager bought it, then my Dad had it (i'm 98% positive thats how it went!). It really has been an un-thrashed well looked after car.

There are a few little marks on the car, but it is 20 years old. But I can guarantee this-you will be hard pushed to find another this clean. If I wasn't saving for a house, it'd be mine-but I have to be sensible.

See the attached pics-if anybody does have a genuine interest, feel free to PM me, and I can give you my Dad's number or pass the info on. Oh, it's garaged every night too, and all the dash bulbs light up, no info centre probs, no water ingress, nothing. The engine bay is mint too-he's cleaned 90% of it over the years he's had it.

As i say, drop me a PM if you're interested.

Dan :(

Is it a manual or auto?

Where in the country is it?

What is the asking price?

Hi guys.

Thanks for the kind words! I forgot to say, the car is a manual! There is also a box of spares which include a pair of orange indicators/repeaters/rear markers, window motor (can't remember which side), Turbo dials, pair of front fogs, switches/relays etc. There's also a roller blind, but he hasn't yet got the clips to fix it in place, so the original luggage cover is still in there. He's not here to ask at the moment, so I don't know when the MOT is up (think it's got another 8 months or so, maybe more??), in the 6+ years he's had it, it's never failed an MOT either.

There was another thing I forgot to mention-he really would like it to go to an enthusiast as we both agreed, neither of us would want it to end up the way my 480 did! This really is a car for the enthusiast.

I did receive a text from a member last night who was interested-he asked about the price, and when I told him, he was quite surprised that it wasn't alotmore. It's worth it for the cambelt/clutch/tax/service alone...

@ Mark480-we've crossed paths too many times before, often clashing-and I have to say, this isn't the 480 for you. Sorry if that sounds harsh, I'm just being honest.

Anybody who is *seriously* interested can drop me a PM. It's easier as I'm computer-less at the moment-I can get access to the forum easier than my email. My Dad has happily said anybody who is really interested can have his number: again-drop me a PM.

For those wishing to know where it is, it's located in Lowestoft, Suffolk: NR33 9NX.

We're not being secretive or just trying to generate alot of fuss-too many times have people listed price etc, and too many times have topics gone sour because of peoples lack of decorum!

Serious PM's only! :D

Dan,

Don't remember clashing with you. However, I am very interested in the car and it's 150 miles closer than Christophano's.

Can you please explain why this isn't the car for me? I've just lost my Saab 9000 Aero to a deer and on the lookout for something a bit smaller but fed up of spending all my time trying to get sheds up to the quality I want. It would be an easier life to just maintain one at a high standard - this!

I am seriously interested in the car, I have money to spend and I assure you it would be looked after. Drop me a PM if you feel the need.

It could be that you have a past history of breaking perfectly good cars and hawking all the bits on ebay? I guess neither of them want to take the risk.
TBH, if i had this car i wouldnt sell it to you either! Expensive though it may be, in 480 terms, it'll find a home that appreciates it!

Looks a super car Dan .I can see where you got your cleaning fetish from.

If I did not have my own project/ money pit going on I would buy it on the spot.

The best option is for you to have it

Hi people.

Right-small confession-I have the ownership details incorrect! Still only 3 owners, but it goes like this:

Bought at a Volvo dealer in Norwich by a company that used to take clients out etc. This was done for approx 8k miles. It was then bought by a Doctor who had it for ages, then my Dad got it 6 years ago. Don't know where I got my info from??!

MOT. The MOT is up end of July. As I say, it's passed the last 6 first time since my Dad's had it-and he openly said that if anybody came round, really wanted it, but were dubious about the MOT, he'd put it in.

Also, I don't have any recent pics of the interior, but I have this one from about 5 years ago. The light patch on the door card has gone-when I bought my 480, the previous owners had purchased new door cards etc, and as I was having mine re-trimmed, I gave my new ones to my Dad.

So, interior pic:

Image

I'm also going to list teh price as I'm getting swamped with PM's. There are alot of people interested, so to save myself going over the same PM's, he's asking for £1400 ovno. Thats quite reasonable imo for the clutch (£380) cambelt, service and road tax alone!

Anyway, again: any serious people wanting to view the car can speak to my Dad-if you drop me a PM i'll give you his home number.

Dan :)

Lots of awesome looking cars going. But I shall remain strong and not spend money I don't have  I think I still have some roller cover clips as well. Let me know if you need them, you can have them, they're only lying there as I don't even have a 480 atm.
