Was:Selling both 480s!Now,an apology!:-)

Cleaned up the garage, found parts laying around, but it turned out to be a complete Volvo 480? If you want to sell your car (480 only) you can place an advert here.

Post by catgroom » Thu Aug 03, 2006 10:01 pm

OK all Ive had enough of faffing about with 480s now.So Im selling up and thats the end of it.

So a 94 Turbo and a 92 Turbo are yours for a grand cash.

The auto needs MOTing in 2 months and taxing then too.

I drove them both today and they just dont do it for me any more ...

you'll regret it dude......i did, then came back to a turbo, and like it.....must admit though....its not a 'shiney' feeling anymore.....just a car to drive, but it does make me smile when i drive it......
heres a scenario for you.....

you sell both cars.....buy something else
12 months time.....buy another 480 for more than you sold two for
have to start fixing and swapping all the things you already had done on yours
never be as happy with the 480 youve just bought, cos its just not quite the same.....

but s'up to you dude....end of the day...your cars, your choice

I agree with Rob, sell your least favourite one and sorn the other, keep it in your drive and then when you do feel the love for it again it'll be there waiting for you and you can welcome it back like the prodigal son :)

For the same money what are you going to get thats :
As quick
handles as well
looks as good
is remotely practical
economical
easy to work on
blah blah blah!!

Steve, Sell it because it's doing your head in and that is not good for you.

Get a normal boring car that don't need it's bonnet popping every day for some silly problem.

I was thinking the same when Steve was saying he wanted to sell...

but I think it was Robin who had the sig "Pick any two - Cheap, Reliable, Fast" and it's true, supply and demand kinda make sure of it. So you're gonna endup with a real bimmer of a car if you want it to be reliable. Something like an old VW Skoda???

(I don't think a Dedra is going to be as fast or any more reliable either Steve. If you're just looking for different types of problems, I guess it'll be a new challenge)

Whilst i miss my 480 alot, i've no looking back since getting a more reliable car as the 480 did my head in after a while (3 bust window motors in 12 months!!!)

Get the car thats right for you and maybe get another 480 as a fun car when your ready?

It's a tough decision mate....

But at the end of the day you have to do whats right for yourself, and if that means selling up and starting over then best of luck to you mate

Hope you find what you're looking for...

Go for the toy in your avatar... it's gonna cost you an arm and a leg, but how much more style can you get for any kind of money? Long live The Goddess!

catgroom, if you've not done rear wheel drive, do it now! I've just tried to have a laugh around some of my favourite roads after fixing the exhaust blow, the instructions said get the exhaust hot to cure the paste!. The 480 is boring to drive. I love the 480 as it's pretty but it breaks my golden rule for car buying those lovely TLAs...RWD and LSD. Think BMW or big Vauxhall or maybe a RWD Volvo?

Keep well,

Sorry Steve,I will definately send these Monday for you.SHould be there following day then.

Right.This is whats happening now.

Paris Turbo-sorted,spent all day on it and now fine,at last!

White Turbo-driveshaft problem being assesed and permanently sorted Tuesday. Will then have 12m MOT and sold on Auto Trader.I dont enjoy driving a Phase 1 overall as much as the White Charger but I cant be arsed with spraying it and fitting a manual gearbox!

So,life is much better now and will be staying in a 480.

Suffice it to say that things have been incredibly tough over this last week for me,didnt need the car going haywire on top of all of it.

I thought regularly of Mart's "Its not just a bad 480 day" avatar! It didnt help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL!

Cheers Paulo!

I should have said many thanks to the forum so far with all the free advice on my cars.Special last night thanks (ooer!) to Rich Pruen for his advice and previous advice on the white one when all the signs pointed to dead gearbox!I did wonder why no fluid had spurted out anywhere!Main thing is no damage done to white one at all!It is simply the snap rings that hold driveshafts into diff (worn out in their centre bores)Cheapus to fix!

Also, naturally, apologies for changing my mind every day as the situation did seem to change every day! So,sorry to those I confused, then ended up making laugh at my scatty headedness. No seriously, sorry Im not usually unreliable like this. When shes next for sale she will be in Auto Trader, discount to any forum member though.

Glad you pulled throughus.
Just had a hard afternoon with much 'do I really want this hassle', and that was just a front disc change, plus frustration with g'box leak.

Eh up Steve-o

I thought you'd actually been posessed by a spam-bot, all the random posts  Don't worry about the mind-changing: i'm sure everybody on here can relate to a bad 480 experience-it's just difficult because they can be so feckin' addictive

Glad you've made a descision and keeping one-you know it's a good descision in the long run. If you ever want to get out or anything in the evening, i'm just down the roadus :D
