Low mileage Celebration for sale
If you haven't already seen this, KGF Classics in Peterborough have a15K mile Celebration 'coming soon'.
As Jeff has rightly pointed out on facebook, this is probably going to be one of the most expensive 480's ever listed for sale.
My guess is £8995, but as they have an MG Metro Turbo up for £14995 (I kid you not!!!), it could possibly be more!
Look forward to seeing the full ad.

Re: Low mileage Celebration for sale
I was at KGF the other day looking at a Fiesta ST for a friend. Lovely chap who runs it, very friendly and accommodating. Prices optimistic but like most of these examples... “go find another one” as they say.
They have a lovely 244GL for £6995
Cant wait to go see it one lunch time. Thanks for posting.

Re: Low mileage Celebration for sale
Much more reasonable - they've put £4995 on it. If the general condition is as good as they say, it's worth every penny. History is very good. View on www.pistonheads.com or there's a video as well on KGF's own website.

Re: Low mileage Celebration for sale
I agree; if on inspection it is as good as it looks in the photographs, and the history is all there and genuine, then it is well worth the price.
Mind you, not so keen on the idea of it being on 24 year old tyres though - that's one aspect of originality that would need to be updated asap...
Sadly, not for me - at least, not at the moment

Agree. If it's as good as it appears it's almost a bargain.

I don't know where they find these cars, but a 6,000 mile Suzuki Carry-thing they had a while back, they just keep getting these "impossible cars" from somewhere, they had a very nice Nissan Almera GTi up for sale in black, but for 6k!

Re: Low mileage Celebration for sale
I think the answer must be that they are willing to pay top money for better examples and probably known throughout the trade as the place to send something good.

Re: Low mileage Celebration for sale
It is interesting that this is another example of a Celebration without a numbered plaque on the dashboard.

Re: Low mileage Celebration for sale
I have been in touch with the seller and got details for the celebration register. The chassis no indicates it should probably be 342 or 343.
I was able to pin this one down quite accurately as it's very close to 345' s chassis no and it definitely isn't 344.
I have been told that the plaques were fitted in a depot in Ipswich, but alternatively that they were fitted by the main dealer selling the car who had a special tool.
Theories on missing plaques:
a. the dealer forgot to put it on and the buyer didn't know the car should have had one
b. the buyer didn't want it, looked too cheap or like an afterthought
c. the buyer didn't want to draw attention to the car as something special

Re: Low mileage Celebration for sale
If it’s got documented mileage and is as good as the photos, then £5000 is a fair price and if I had somewhere to put it I would grab it, looks a belter!
Re: Low mileage Celebration for sale
I've been through the KGF photos with a fine-toothed comb and must admit that I am struggling to find anything of significance.
They comment themselves about the weather-seals, and I notice the usual crack is starting in the dashboard, but hey - find me a 480 without these problems, and neither is a very bad instance.
Looks as if the N/S rear seat seat-belt buckle might be broken as they often are - I can't quite tell.
The only other thing that jumps out at me is that the black is missing from the stripe across the front bumper...
Obviously none of the photos show the underside, but given some of the cars we've seen recently at this price or higher I think it might genuinely be a very good buy.
If it was a bit closer I would certainly go and have a careful look at it. Perhaps if I sold both of mine I could afford it....

Correct - but remember, you're paying £5k...dcwalker wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2019 6:32 pm

Which tells us what? That's right, the front bumper has been painted (and not very well) - Now why??
See, call me cynical.... but for £5k, you're at the VERY upper end of the market, so I'd expect every niggle (including the tyres) to be sorted.dcwalker wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2019 6:32 pmObviously none of the photos show the underside, but given some of the cars we've seen recently at this price or higher I think it might genuinely be a very good buy.

Also, Cracked rear lenses, rear wiper parked in wrong position, heater button minging and missing timing belt sticker.
Nice, but still not a 5k car..... For me, closer to 3k.
Re: Low mileage Celebration for sale
You Jeff? Cynical?
No, all fair comment - and I didn't mention the tyres because I did so before, but I'd definitely want those changed at no extra cost.
I think in fairness it would be difficult to hold out on the common faults - they aren't going to find perfect a dashboard or weather-strips to replace them with. "Unobtainium" is your favourite motto, and for good reason, but realistically perhaps we should make some allowance for that problem?
Good point re the heater button and even if you can't find a new one they can be refurbished quite well with a little care.
Fully with you on the front bumper too - you have spelt out exactly what I was thinking...
You're right, perhaps I won't go cashing in my existing cars just yet

Re: Low mileage Celebration for sale
I suppose, for someone who is going to put the car on display, original tyres on the original wheels is quite a bonus - you'd just need a second set of wheels if you wanted to drive it, rather than just have it to trailer to exhibitions.

Re: Low mileage Celebration for sale
We also have to take into account the mileage when valuing the car. 15000 for a 25 year old car is very rare and must add significant value if genuine. As the old motto goes Where yup going to get another?
Re: Low mileage Celebration for sale
Which kind of brings me on to my whole "originality" point.dragonflyjewels wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2019 9:30 pmI suppose, for someone who is going to put the car on display, original tyres on the original wheels is quite a bonus - you'd just need a second set of wheels if you wanted to drive it, rather than just have it to trailer to exhibitions.
It's often used by by people who simply can't be bothered to change something because it costs money.
"the tyres are the originals..." = New ones are readily available, but clearly £260 for a decent set is beyond your budget so it's about "originality"
That dashboard isn't original, because when it left the factory, the clocks were all at zeros'
The oil in the engine is no longer original. So where do you draw the line?
For me, originality = Ornament. It's to be stuck on a shelf and looked at, because heavens forbid you have to replace something.
Personally, I'd see a car as the sum of its parts. Mileage doesn't bother me as long as it's been regularly serviced.
Ah..... You get me!

I'd call it practical - cars are for driving not just for looking at (unless of course it's Etorre's Bugatti Royal)
