Gumball Rally car wanted.
My mate has decided he wants to do this next year/year after. I've assured him that the 480 is the best car for the job. I think a manual two litre ES will be fine so I'm gonna start thinking about getting one. There will be plenty coming up on ebay but if any member knows of one going extra cheap then please let me know. It will probably get an engine rebuild, get raised a couple of inches and have things mounted on the front (ie spots) on the side (ie jerry can bins) and on the roof (ie a rack for the mud/snow wheels) amongst other things. It will have to accomodate 4 adults we all know it can do with ease and of course be able to eat up several thousand miles. Ideas/suggestions anyone??

Re: Gumball Rally car wanted.
i would go for a nissan primera GT if you want to get , which car basically said if you don't care about looks or prestiege it's the best car under £1000 you could buy , i have driven the GT version , easy to find under a grand , and bloody good jap reliability and nearly 150 BHP and 135mph !!!! without a turbo standard .you can get another 25 bhp from a manifold change and cold air intake , and slightly upping the fuel pressure , some people have tuned them to 220bhp for about £400 ish etc . chain chain no belt , weak points are drive shafts and 3rd gear
just a thought , i love my 480's too but would think twice about a desert for it.
cheers

Re: Gumball Rally car wanted.
Thanks for the advice but it's a 480 we want. Not looking at ragging it so no need for speed/power. It's the Gumball rally!!!
Re: Gumball Rally car wanted.
Buy mine.
I would love to see it used for a good reason like that.
I'd be happy to help out with the rebuild also. It doesn't need it though. The engine is strong still, though the starter motor is dead or dieing. Mostly ancillary issues such as door catch, heater and dash illumination. Passed the last few MOT's without a problem. I stopped driving her after the starter motor started playing up - If you bump the car slightly, it is usually enough for the starter motor to start working again. She has 125k miles, and MOT until the end of January. I think you drove her down the motorway once

Re: Gumball Rally car wanted.
Mine will shortly be up for sale and may have to go to the breakers/scrap yard. I'd love to see it go to a good use like this.
Mechanically it is sound, there are some small niggles caused by a loose conenction on the speedo and information centre.
Interior in really good condition. Passenger side window does not currently work.
Exterior in good condition, rear arches starting to rust, rear offside has a dent as someone reversed into it, this is why i am selling it as to knock it out and make good would not be economical, after the insurance has paid out (note not cat d or anything)
There are photos of it in its hayday in my signature.
Recently had to put a new regulator in the alternator as the brushes were worn. I believe the car has currently done 98k.
I will be genuinely sad to see it go, as my first car I don't think I could have asked for anything more

Re: Gumball Rally car wanted.
am considering selling my 2L 480TT. MOT June, 101000, just been serviced with advice re centre exhaust pipe leak and surface corrosion on rear brake pipe which may not pass next test.
I have replaced front discs and pads. Information centre intermittent 32 - 37 mpg
