FOR SALE - White 480 ES, Birmingham *with pics* £200
Hi there
I am due to be selling my 480 soon as I have been issued a company car and the insurance runs out at the end of the month. I'm not looking for a lot of money - I'd just like to see it go to a good home where it will get some use!
It is a 1990 H reg currently residing in Birmingham.
- White
- Around 61,000 miles (was kept in same family before me)
- Tax till end of July
- MOT till March 2010
- I gave it a service (oil, filter, fuel filter, rear brake pads and coolant change) in May to prep it for a 3000 mile journey to Italy and back(!)
- All 4 tyres have plenty of tread
- Info centre works fully
- Pop-ups work just fine
Issues to be aware of:
- Rust as usual - rear wheel arches and bottom of doors
- Creak on rear suspension, I suspect bushes (though no issue with MOT)
- Heated seats do not work
- Spare tyre has dodgy valve so is currently dead-weight!
- A few bumps here and there, but nothing too bad
- Driver's seat lumbar does not work
- Sometimes first gear is a little bit tough to find!
Except for the arches which are in need of attention, none of the issues are major - the engine runs perfectly and anyone who is interested can drive her away.
I will post a few pictures soon. If anyone is interested please give me a PM - I'm open to offers on this one though like I say, I'm not after a lot.
Many thanks
James

Hi, I'm really interested in the car.
What sort of money would you accept? £300.
Do you have any more pictures, especially of the rust.
How do you mean it is hard to put it into first?
How much is tax on one of these for a year?
Thanks.
Dom.

Hi Dom
£300 was around what I was looking for - I will post some pictures tomorrow night if I get the chance.
To get first gear, sometimes you have to come off the clutch in neutral and try again - really not that bad and anyone can obviously test drive it to check for themselves.
Tax for a year would be £190 - standard rate for car pre 2001 (and 1.6 litre+). £104.50 for 6 months.
I will get some pics up soon for people to look at.
Thanks for your interest.

.
dont worry about first gear buddy.ive owned 2 and they are all like this,it wont let you down.1st seems quite a low ratio compared to most cars.there is a slight wine in 1st and i think i read somewhere it is straight cut gear teeth (no synchromesh).straight cut gears are noisier but can handle more power.

As promised, some photos of the car in question.
These don't really show the full extent of the rust... the "lip" on the arch is virtually gone now. Anyone wanting to take this on as a project must be aware this is in need of attention. I'm not trying to put anyone off, I just want to be honest!
Having said that, there's no reason this car couldn't mechanically carry on for thousands of miles!

It was a lay-by on the E35 (I seem to remember we were about half way through Switzerland by that time!).
I see you're from Basel - we didn't actually stop there but that was the route we took to re-enter France (though we went the wrong way briefly toward Germany! The signs for "FRANCE" and "GERMANY" were appearently not clear enough for us... haha )
