South West Meeting

Post by jromaines » Sat Jun 04, 2005 11:30 pm

Looked at the memberlist and saw there was quite a few members from the South West. After Catgrooms idea for a meeting for South East how about one for the south west? No ideas about where to meet etc, just wanted to see if there was any interest..

I'm trying to organise a 'big' meet for next year. Based around the Hanes Motor Museum, and some local (ish) stuff.

Smaller meetings would be great however :) There is a fairly good chance that I will turn out.

See Here!

Hopefully tomorrow all being well(and cheap enough lol). It's getting done on my G/F's dads insurance for a couple months until I am able to afford to pay for two 18 yr olds with no NCB...(ie when I get settled in Uni)!

I have an exam on the 7th but I may be able to come done for a day or two not sure really. Petrol money is a problem as well as I have bought 2 cars out of this months paycheck :cryhard:

I will post back tomorrow about the wales meet in the wales meet section. Cheers, Rob

I'm definately up for the Haynes meet but that's next year!! Can't make the Wales unfortunately - hence why I thought of this.

Anyone got any suggestions of where to meet. Weston-Super-Mud perhaps??

I've always thought theres been a big collection of 480 memebers in the south west, I'd be up for going to a meet or maybe once a month/two months.

OK does Weston Super Mud (or possibly Minehead?) sound like a central place for a meet? Do people want a meet up in a pub or something a bit more organised? Oh and finally dates.. I'm thinking August sometime or possibly early September.

Just about any time would be ok, september would be a little quieter than holiday time.

I'm not worried about where it is, pub would be fine.

Just to add, I think minehead would be a good place as there are some nice pubs and lots of nice drives around there!

I know the Coolest Place for a 480 SW meet.

Its in Oare, just inside devon, about 3 miles from Lynton and Lynmouth. Those hills are great for roaring up!

The campsite is really chilled out. You can have campfires and its right next to a small river and some cute exmoor ponies.

Its in a depression in the hills of the moor really close to the sea. Its soo nice.

THe weather was shitty though that was in May. Theres some more photos of surrounding area http://photobucket.com/albums/y138/thedeepfix/Exmoor/. Its all huge hills and harpins etc etc. Wow..

The campsite, cloud farm is £4 per night. There is a pub about 1/4 mile away in Oare. http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi? ... 184&up.y=1

Has anyone else been up/down Porlock Hill?

Stayed at lynton/lynmouth hostel a few years back and it was beautiful. Great scenery and lots of massive fookin hills! lol! Lovely place. Havent had a chance to drive there since passing my test but is on my to-do list as from what I can remember it has some really nice scenery.

Like i said though I'm up for anything. Visiting a pub for a quiet meet or a full blown camping trip in a lovely part of Devon(I work in a camping shop so have a large supply of camping accessories already and have access to loads more at discount)!

Cheers, Rob

That is a nice place...nice roads too..if you fancy a detour, A396 through Dunster, to Wheddon Cross (where my car used to live), B3224, B3223, then a unclassified road or back on the '39 to Oare
Has anyone else been up/down Porlock Hill?
Many times...most memorably in a MKII cavalier with non functioning rear brakes
Its ok as long as you don't get stuck behind someone who is intent on overheating their brakes, if you use the gears and limit the braking, fine, get forced to run down on the brakes and you'll boil your fluid.

So looks like Minehead then! Anyone know of a decent pub to meet and I'm thinking 10th Sept (it's a Saturday) as I can't do the weekend before due to work. Could always meet at Butlins

Last time I went to Purlock Hill I was about 5!!
