Many thanks Sylvia and Alan. I know a lot of effort went into that.

this may work:

However, if not, roundtrip of 77 miles,

NN4 0TG > A43 >A14 > A423 > NN4 0TG

That hurt my head.....

Late to the Party I know, but I did actually give the car a wash today as it had been needing, and also attempted to fix the screen on the radio that dcwalker kindly sourced for me. Would anyone know A: how to get the volume knob off, B: why the radio screen would be blank, as the radio and cassette still work and C: how would I fix this?

Hope everyone has had a great day, the Volvo was taken out for a run today and I must say it is performing very well, and after reading the scathing review of the 3 year running report by Motor magazine, I feel quite lucky to have an '89 MY! (Let me know If anyone wants the review scanned in)

Here's a nice picture from the Archive, even in 'project' condition the car still has a nice grace to its shape

Thank Sylvia, great effort as ever.

Hopefully when restrictions lift we can get a meeting in the metal.

The LCD is not getting excited, there will be maybe a ribbon or a strip that connects the display to the board. Does anything appear when you touch the display?

No, nothing, thought it sometimes tunes into weird stations on its own

Is your TVR a Griffiths with the 4.7/5
Its an early 'pre-cat' 4.0... makes the 480 feel well built

Actually, we have a dust-storm - it's blue skies and sunshine but very windy and the farmer's recently ploughed his field of light sandy soil.
Friday I drove cross country from Wisbech to Littleport and the wind-driven dust coming off the fields was incredible!
Cheers for that but I was getting excited about the Griffiths as I thought it was the '65 4.7 or 5 litre version. I just couldn't afford one in the 70s........too much loot.

I think Andrew is talking about the McPherson strut top mount and how it attaches to the body via the two fixing holes.

He's right, some are studs and nuts, and some are bolts. Good spot. Didn't know there was a difference...

Sylvia; Re. your "Turnip" conundrum... I would call the 480 "School Report"........ because it never quite reached its potential.

I know that's not a glowing tribute to what should be a forum full of fans... and we are all fans.... but I genuinely believe the 480 had the chance to re-write the Volvo rule book just like the 850 T5-R did.

If they had given the 480 Turbo 150-160bhp, which it was perfectly capable of doing, a suspension package with reduced ride height and a quicker steering rack with less assistance, then it would of generated a bit more positive press.

Yes it would of been rubbish and torque steered everywhere but they all did back then. The mk4 Escort Turbo was rubbish, yet everyone looks back like it was some kind of legend.
Robou saved the day Jay. His mod is great. Mine has a Robou and boy does it go. I agree with everything you said about Volvo and the 480. They always played safe. Until the Polestar came along.

All Sylvia's work Andrew. She's the organiser where 480s are involved. I just drive them......eagerly.     Thanks for the comment. Hope to see you in the near future, when the Chinese plague has subsided. Ooooooop did I say that......naughty.

Sorry I missed all this, completely forgot about it 🙈

No 480 tasks for me today, took it for a drive instead, the weekly shop done in style 😁

Jeff, are the Vega rims 14 or 15 inch diameter? Probably the nicest 480 wheels I've seen 😁

So sorry I wasn't able to get back to this yesterday - life got in the way, which is perhaps one of the disadvantages of doing a meet while still at home?

Thanks so much to Sylvia for all her work though - as always on these things! I very much look forward to being able to do the next meet in a more traditional manner.

Thanks also to those who joined in with such gusto, especially Jeff, Jay and Al (although I suspect Al knew Sylvia would kill him if he didn't... ;).

Best wishes to all, stay safe - and here's hoping for normality again soon :D

Can I just say from today’s Virtual Meet, that looks a treat.
Thankfully he didn’t submit an engine bay shot - I will get a pollen filter housing one day.....
Thanks Jay - I saw your comment late last night and it brightened my day no end! Lily isn't quite as perfect as that shot makes her look, but she is a very good example (even if I am biased ;) ) and in many ways the love of my life (and yes, the wife of 22 years does know that!).

Here's a shot of the engine bay since Jeff missed it yesterday:

and a gratuitous interior shot just to show the inside matches the outside!

All the best

Oh yes - and especially for Jeff while I am catching up - in case anyone wondered yes, Nilani's engine bay cleaned up nicely as well but no, sadly, I don't have a pollen filter for her. Mind you, I haven't resurrected her air con yet so it doesn't matter quite so much as it does for Lily...

And without Jeff she wouldn't have the rubber seals sitting behind the headlights either :D

as intuitive as ever... mind, I nearly killed him when he announced he couldn't remember his password and hadn't done anything about it. Thankfully, his old laptop knew it but then he fell foul of the security question asking for the VIP code and hadn't a clue where to get it....grrrr  Quick text to jiff solved the problem so Al escaped to live another day.
This morning he's busy pumping water out of the garden having forgotten to turn the sprinkler off last night - we've had no rain for at least a month and yesterday's dust storm left a thick layer of soil all over the leaves in our newly sprouting kitchen garden. Knowing the rest of the garden is parched, he put the exit pipe from the pump over the wall, into the field next door..... How has this man survived 27 years with me ???

If it was a tie break, what was the weight of a seat, headlamp and boss?
Jeff didn't get round to to the weight, so you would have won, Al's scales made it 13.5kg so your 14.45kg was closest

got completly way-laid with tins of rattle paint on EVA :-(
(and trying to swap N/S with O/S leathers seats for the SS1, frame rotten on the O/S I was 'given' but leather is hard to pass-up)

I too have one with bolts on front turrets and one with studs, bolts on 93, studs on 95

I did actaully take some photos of both engine bays, but still on camera . .. . .

I did! I guessed 16.7kg! So you still beat me!

was a good fun day - despite me doing 480 maintenance in between frantic posts!
