mmm, wonder if that is deliberate or error ? Some people don't have standard suspension. It's the sort of thing jifflemon will pick up on straight away

Just noticed looking at the engine bays that the shock absorber struts are held in by bolts at the top, some are head at the top others are nuts at the top. Not very important but unusual.
Andrew
Simple explanation! They're all the same. The shocker absorber nut is covered by a plastic plate, that pushes into the middle of the strut. If you've had replacement front struts, depending on the manufacturer, the plastic cover may or may not be able to be refitted.

I think Andrew is talking about the McPherson strut top mount and how it attaches to the body via the two fixing holes.

He's right, some are studs and nuts, and some are bolts. Good spot. Didn't know there was a difference...

Sylvia; Re. your "Turnip" conundrum... I would call the 480 "School Report"........ because it never quite reached its potential.

I know that's not a glowing tribute to what should be a forum full of fans... and we are all fans.... but I genuinely believe the 480 had the chance to re-write the Volvo rule book just like the 850 T5-R did.

If they had given the 480 Turbo 150-160bhp, which it was perfectly capable of doing, a suspension package with reduced ride height and a quicker steering rack with less assistance, then it would of generated a bit more positive press.

Yes it would of been rubbish and torque steered everywhere but they all did back then. The mk4 Escort Turbo was rubbish, yet everyone looks back like it was some kind of legend.

Washing up ? Blimey, where do you find the time and energy ? If you haven't got your head under a bonnet it's under the car !

o very good, the old 'could do better' (I had plenty of those!), so true of the 480

perhaps they should just have left Porsche's work alone  the press would have still slated the elctrics, but certainly not the performance !

well, in a lot of ways, it DID re-write Volvo's rule book, but that's for another day when I finally finish editing the English edition of a Dutch book which is mainly about the 480 but does also feature the other Volvo coupes. When that gets published all will be revealed.

Hindsight certainly is a wonderful thing though...

It's odd that "modern" cars should be perfect - Still a LONG way to go of course - And yet, even with all the improvements, we don't crave them like we do a wedge.

For me, it's the perfect era of car; Advanced enough that we don't have to deal with the points and carbs, but not so advanced that we need a computer to tell us why that bloody light is once again on the dashboard.

Completely agree with all that!

The more they make modern cars perfect, the more they iron out their soul.

Oh yeah, and Bosch L-Jetronic is my comfort zone :D

Look at Tesla; should be perfect. Worse cars for reliability.

Who the feck needs a door handle that pops out for you to operate it? It’s just asking for bloody trouble!

Same goes with electric handbrakes.

I’m convinced engine bays are designed to be as intimidating as possible to force you to take it to the main dealer. Problem then is that it’s some poor mechanic that has to deal with it; can’t be arsed because whilst you’re paying £145 per hour labour rate, he’s lucky to be getting £10 of that. So he can happily cut corners because you know what? It’ll be alright until next time; or covered by warranty if it does fail....

Well, the outright winner of the roads challenge was jifflemon, the only one who managed to do it in 3 so we didn't need the tiebreakers.

Jay-Kay-Em has to be the winner of the name challenge, being the only entrant, but he would probably have won anyway.

A big thank you to everyone who joined in with all the chat and made it so much like a normal meet. If I was giving a prize for overall effort, that would go to Jay-Kay-Em as well for great arrival pic/hilarious engine bay pic and participation in everything.

The ole biddy will toddle off now, getting on for my bedtime and I'm supposed to need a cup of Horlicks or something. Great talking to you all !

Oh and everyone that entered a bonnet shot will get a prize.

Caveat is that aerosols are a bugger to post so you have to collect your prize at the next physical meet!

Hey thanks Sylvia

The effort you went to was great so had you running in the background.

If it was a tie break, what was the weight of a seat, headlamp and boss?
