May 2020 Immobile Mini Meet

Post by dragonflyjewels » Thu Jan 30, 2020 12:35 pm

Hello everyone, and Happy New Year to you all.
I'm looking at dates for the May meet, 23rd is good for us. If anyone can't make that day, please let me know. It will be a repeat of the Hampshire meet, starting at the Hellfire Caves on the edge of High Wycombe, and ending somewhere near our photoshoot at Goodwood.
Good luck to our northern friends for the waterfalls meet - fingers crossed there won't be waterfalls of rain !! We'd have loved to join you, but we will only just be back from Spain. After driving 1500 miles home, I suspect neither of us will be up for another long car journey. Lots of photos please !

Hi Sylvia, I will be on a battlefield tour of Belgium and France on that date, so unable to come I’m afraid. Shame you could not make the waterfalls meet here’s hoping for good weather for both meets. Cheers Norm.

Hello Sylvia,

It is probably a bit darn sarf for me to contemplate taking part, sadly :(

Is there any appetite, I wonder, for another jaunt around the Derbyshire Dales and Derwent Water? I think my newly shod Paris Blue beastie would be there at a canter.

:hopping:

Sorry you aren't available, but enjoy the waterfalls meet and the battlefields, we'll look forward to seeing you again at another meet later in the year.

FInancially, I don't think we can make this one but will show up if things ease off nearer the time. :)
April will see a lot of ££££ go into the 480 which is currently sitting un-drivable....again...until that cash injection. :wall:

Sorry to say it is looking like the meet will have to be postponed :cryhard: :cryhard:
Al and I are both in the dreaded 'old' bracket so we are expecting to be told to stay home for four months. Good job we have plenty of unfinished projects to get on with.
We'll just have to wait and see what happens. Glad we had our holiday in Italy last year !!

That a shame Sylvia, with my trip to Belgium probably cancelled I was hoping to come on this one. Hey ho! There's always next year hope you and Al stay safe and well.

There's the French club meet in September, maybe that one will still go ahead.

Shame that the meets are going to be delayed.

Gives me a chance to smarten up my 480 and put some miles on it.

I see things from the positive side, when this corona winter is over, I will have the desperate urge to leave the country for a trip, just to taste freedom again. The 480 has MOT until January 2021, is currently filled up with Shell V-Power (no ethanol) and has its battery disconnected, so when this is all over, it's just a matter of connecting battery and go.

Always good to see an optimist, Robert - well done! :D

Sylvia, it's a real shame but not unexpected. You and Al are always the "parent figures" on our escapades ;) ;) ;) so us younger people must look after you, even if that means avoiding your company for a while :( Never mind, the next meet will be even better when it happens, for the waiting and the anticipation!

Stay save both of you - and, indeed, everyone on here!

I hope everyone is staying safe and keeping well - the news is just awful, but so far so good for Al and I so we must count our blessings and just hope it stays that way.

Having spent the last few weeks digging up an unused bit of garden for a vegetable patch and renovating the big tatty greenhouse for salad crops, boredom has set in while we await results. Al has finally found and fixed the leak in our new (ish) conservatory so we could go ahead and decorate, BUT the DIY shops are closed round here and builder's merchants will only sell stuff needed for emergency repairs. I have loads of painting and decorating to do but that's boring as well, so I keep assuring myself I probably haven't got the paint (highly unlikely, I could stock a paint shop from our shed.)

Al can't go shooting, he couldn't go to see Les Miserables (the ticket was a Christmas present), my daughter and grandson couldn't come over from Germany for Easter, we can't go to London next weekend to see the Tutankhamun exhibition, we probably can't have our Mobile Mini Meet in May and I don't anticipate being able to go on our touring holiday in North Wales, timed so we could go to a VEC meet in a 480 on the way home in early June. What are the chances of the Torque Volvo record attempt going ahead at the end of June ? Nil I suspect.

So, I have come up with an alternative plan for some light entertainment in the form of a virtual Immobile Mini Meet. The big advantage of course is that distance is irrelevant so everyone can join in if they can get a bit of time off from the 'forced diy'. I'm planning for the 23rd May, hopefully those still working will be able to make the date, but let me know if you'd like to join in and can't do the 23rd. The rough plan is for us to all sign in on the forum ('arrive at the meeting place') for a series of funny photos, wedge-related competitions and challenges with breaks morning and afternoon for any essential 'other duties' in lieu of driving somewhere. Please let me know if you're up for it and I'll carry on plotting.

cheers
Sylvia

Sounds good, Sylvia :)

I'm constantly immobile, in a 480 sense, so that will work well for me!

Should be fine, date wise. If I do go back to work, we usually only work weekdays now.

I’m in!

I quite like this lockdown; but then again, I work in I.T so I’ve been social distancing for years! :?

I am supposed to be working but if working from home I could dig the 480 out of the lock up for some photos.

Would be good if the lockdown was lifted before the end of the summer though.
