We will be staying over Friday night in the Travelodge next door to the Toby, and also Saturday night at the Royal Oak. Everyone welcome for all or part of the day, but please let me know your plans.

All sorted - Saturday 26th is now booked. There are 6 rooms still available at The Royal Oak aka The Splash, doubles are £75 including breakfast and they want a £20 deposit. Tel 01507 600750 www.royaloaksplash.co.uk. Early booking recommended as there aren't many places to stay in the area.

I lived close to the Splash and Louth is the nearest place to get extra rooms should you need them. Places like Kenwick Park and The Brackenborough will have decent parking and the less expensive Travellers B&B in the centre also has space to park off the road and away from 'youths'

The Kings Head, Masons Arms and Pack Horse are all central pubs and I wouldn't want to leave my 480 around there on a Saturday night.... But then again, I get panicky leaving it anywhere!

Whether it will be in a 480 though remains to be seen - Lily's insurance annual mileage allowance is just about up, and the "new" Celebration is nowhere near being on the road yet. Good chance she will be by late October but...

Otherwise we will mess up the line up with the C70

If so, many thanks for that - no sign of a speeding ticket yet I trust ( - I assume I would also have one because James was happily keeping up with me in my GT...). The GT is a much tighter drive all round, but it has mostly new suspension and age on its side. However, I did like the feeling of ample power just sitting there waiting to spring instantly into life that you just don't get with the 2.0...

I did wonder about contacting the 480 hire company . Can I bear it in mind and get back to you? It'd be good, but equally MK is quite a long way away to get the car, drive it north, then go all the way back again, given I live just north of York.

Certainly appreciate the offer though!

What about collecting it Friday night then coming to the Northampton Travelodge to stay over ? Although that would leave you needing to go back to MK on Sunday so maybe not such a good idea.
