2019 meetings

Discussions about meetings, both organised by us and by others, can take place here. If you want to organise a meeting yourself, this is the place to start! If you want to inform everyone of a meeting no one might know, feel free to post it here too.

2019 meetings

Post by dragonflyjewels » Sat Jan 26, 2019 8:35 pm

Hello everyone ! It's that time of year again when I start thinking about meetings. I'm proposing to do three again this year, the usual and very popular Derbyshire meet in May, another Scotland run in July, and maybe Lincolnshire Wolds in October. This year, Derbyshire will incorporate Snake Pass again but avoid well dressing and punch-ups. Unless of course someone else fancies doing the organising ? I suspect not as most of you still have jobs to go to in which case I'm happy to carry on.

At this stage I'd just like some feedback on where people would like to go, and what dates to avoid if possible. Or maybe even a volunteer with some fresh ideas if someone else does want to have a go.

Sounds like a good plan to me, Sylvia - and happy to let you organise the meets since you do it so well :D

Jeff - the Volvo 600 is definitely a good idea as well...

What days do you tend to do the meets, Sat or Sun? I'm definitely interested in the Derbyshire and Lincolnshire ones.
I may go the Volvo world record attempt too, not sure...

Hi Nigel,

The meets are always on a Saturday so if anyone is coming from a distance they have the option of staying overnight either on the Friday or after the meet. We always end up in a hotel or pub with accomodation for an evening meal so those of us staying over can relax and have a few drinks in the bar, as well as carrying on talking about 480s.

Both Derbyshire and Lincolnshire start in Northampton for breakfast. Driving in procession is half the fun as we make our way somewhere nice for a couple of hours chat and lunch break before we carry on. For Derbyshire, lunch is usually at picturesque Tissington followed by a stop at Derwent Dam before we tackle Snake Pass. Everyone is very welcome to join wherever they wish and stay for as much of the day as suits them. Passengers are warmly welcome and always seem to enjoy the day even if not very interested in the cars.

Hope we meet you in the flesh - I met your car last year when collecting spares from Andrew. Rachel's turbo is the same colour, but there has been mention of some smoke greys having a blue undertone while others have purple. Last year we had a flame red GT and a flame red Celebration which weren't quite the same colour, and a quick look at the paint codes revealed that the paints were from 2 different manufacturers. Useful stuff to know if you need to match it.

Nigel

I see you are in Leeds - we are just outside York. If you do plan to attend the meets (certainly I'd recommend the Derbyshire one in particular, although they've all been great!) perhaps we could get together and travel in mini-convoy to join the rest?

All the best

I'm looking at 11th May for the Derbyshire meet, hope that's OK for everyone who wants to come. Just need to make a final decision on the end point as it's May Queen weekend in Hayfield again......

I'm hoping to make a return to the fold in the near future, once my impending house move is complete and I have a garage to store the next extramarital car in ;)

Not sure if I will make it to the May meeting in the Dales, but it would be a great point of focus to aim for...Watch this space!

Regards to all!
