Jeff - you broke down? What happened?

David
Car was faultless all day, then literally as we we're on the exit road it just cut out and wouldn't restart. Info centre was warning I was down to a range of 35 miles and was on the last 2 bars of fuel, so I figured the most likely cause was that the gauge was lying and I was actually out of fuel. The calvery showed up and Rachel nipped off to get me a can of fuel from a nearby petrol station.

Dropped that in, and it still didn't want to start; worse still the battery was now getting grumpy. So, Aaron and I pushed it out into the carpark, where fortunately there was a friendly AA man. How friendly? Well, I'm not a member but he was more than happy to try and solve a problem on a "real Volvo" (he'd just had to try and fix a C30, but it was a "computer required" job). We tracked it down to a combination of both no fuel, and no spark, which make me think crank sensor.

Thinking logically, given the amount of start/stop/clutch slip going on (my left leg is STILL aching 2 days later!), I'm thinking there may just be a big old build up of clutch dust over it.

Just need to find the time to do it now - Currently looking at 2 weeks time due to work; Rather annoying given that I've already paid for a month's tax for one day, and month two she's out of action!

Sounds a sensible suggestion - hope you get it fixed soon!

Was a good day, was good to see so many 480's out not seen any for years. Was a shame couldn't get them all together but the whole area was chaos.
Hopefully get to the next meet :D

I couldnt make it in either my S60 or 480.

I did however spot the 740 and V70 police cars heading North on the M6 on my way to Gloucester Monday morning.

Looks like a good day.

For those that haven't heard, the new GWR attempt will take place on Sunday 28th June 2020 at Bruntingthorpe.

More info. on facebook - TORQUEVOLVO - Official Home of VOLVO600

Anyone wanting to stay the night before, I'd recommend booking a hotel asap. There are still rooms available at the Premier Inn Rugby North (M6 Jct1), which is a good meeting place and inexpensive.

According to Ashley's records we had 27 attending last time. It would be great to beat that and get a monster group photo. I'm sure someone will arrange a pre-event get together via the facebook group.
1994 480GT - arrived!!
XC60 and XC70 for the daily grind.
C70 Coupé Convertible for the sunny days. Should sell it but can't!

Ah...will try to make this one. Might even be able to do it with 2 480s by then! :D

Sorry to sound thick, but is Facebook the only way of accessing info? It's just that I don't do, and won't do, Facebook and things like that... :?

David,

there WAS a website... but looking for it now it seems to be down, i dare say it was taken down after the last event and will be on the go again in due course with a few major changes

We'll be there again. Just booked the Lutterworth Travelodge - it's nearer the circuit and they take cats just in case we have to take Willow again. I wonder if she was the first cat ever chauffered around a race track when she went to Knockhill with us  We've had all the test results now and still don't know what caused the dreadfull illness so it could happen again. Not sure the bank balance will stand another bout !!

Like dc, I don't 'do' social media either although I did reluctantly re-join FB recently just so I could downlaod a pic of me in Lily from Bruntingthorpe last year. I joined when it first started up and had a nasty experience so hadn't touched it since. I was assured they aren't as invasive as they used to be and they don't appear to have contacted all my email contacts without my knowledge but with my name at the bottom of their emails like they did way back when. Hopefully someone sued and they learnt the lesson !

Yes, another chance! I was in the old V40 last time. This time we can overheat nicely in the 480. :hopping:

I'm guessing lessons were learned and hopefully there will be a lot more awareness and organisation next year .....and fewer lane changing k@#bs! Seemed so many people made such an effort and really enjoyed the day but all a bit in the dark as to what should actually be happening to get the record.

Booked the nearest Air B&B, about a mile away from the Airfield in Peatling Parva. Ninja booking skills. Someone let me in the line if you go that way!

The website is up but very limited. I guess it will evolve, but FB is where most of the info. presides.

https://www.volvo600.co.uk/

There was a launch event at Bruntingthopre this weekend with over 300 cars attending. I know Ashley attended in his 480.

Youtube vid here: - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHBQaWm ... B3YqS2cwRk

I'll keep posting any relevant info. on this thread.

thats rich!!! are you removing the bulkhead as well as bonnet to let the heat escape? or have you found a water cooled motor?
we had them at Inverurie on PM4 main thin-stock pump . .. . . . . although it was a 3.3kV beast pushing out a few hundred HP and you could easily have done white water rafting on the discharge from it :hopping:

Hi all.
As an Organiser of the last attempt and the new one, its great to see that you want to attend again.
yes lessons have definitely been learnt from the last attempt and this time will be completely different. there is a much larger window to get ppl in and out so hopefully that will reduce the pressure before during and after. the toilets will be moved to blocks up and down the straight, not just in one place. there will be a radio station for the day with signs so everybody can listen to the rules and have no excuses for not knowing them.
Anybody found leaving a gap and speeding up will be removed, no questions asked (unless you had broken down).

the measured mile will be different aswell, none of this 4 cars in line that reduces down 2 on the bottom corner.

we are sure this time round we will get the record and raise an amazing amount of money again, this time for the British Heart Foundation. BHF for short.

we do have a website in production i think it has been launched but at the moment very little content on there. obviously as plans progress we will update this. we also have Torque_volvo on instagram and also tourquevolvo on twitter. also facebook is covered so hopefully one way or another you will all be kept upto date on new things.

hopefully Rachel or one of the other admins mods on here will update everybody with any new items we have posted. Rachel you know you have my permission to post whatever you feel necessary to keep ppl upto date.

if any of you have any decent suggestions that i have not covered please feel free to contact me on here or on facebook, i only shout occasionally lol.

i did see somebody posted a video of our launch for the new event, we had 316 cars attend Cosford and it was an amazing day.

we have a Midlands Mega Meet 2 coming up very soon at Carsington Water DE6 1ST the date is the 15-09-19. everybody is welcome.

we also have our annual meet at Gaydon home of the British motor museum on the 06-10-19 link below

hopefully you can all make this one aswell, discount tickets available for the museum which is a brilliant place.

we do have stickers and Tshirts on order already, there are a cpl of stickers available from our facebook page which now has its own shop. we will be putting everything for sale via the website aswell once we have enough stock.

https://www.facebook.com/events/2367114 ... null&ref=4

https://www.facebook.com/events/479131 ... null&ref=4

hopefully see you there if not at the record event. :D :D :D
