Hellfire Caves
There is a very small carpark in front of the caves entrance, which is where I’m hoping to get some excellent photos of groups of approx. 5 cars. The caves open at 11 so I was originally planning arrival by 10 after starting at a breakfast location. The caves are a few hundred yards walk from the West Wycombe carpark which is tree lined, large and fairly empty, so also good for photos.
Having had a chat to the staff at the caves, I was dismayed to be told that on some days, people have arrived as early as 9 to be sure of parking at the entrance – apparently they prefer to wait in their cars for 2 hours rather than walk, and no, they aren’t disabled, the caves aren’t really suitable for anyone with walking difficulties. I'm speechless ! Can only hope it doesn’t happen on the day, or if it does, they may be amenable to moving if we ‘save’ their space for them to come back to.
The plan now is to have the big carpark as the 9am start point, and hopefully despatch groups to the caves as they arrive. The other difficulty is that the lane to the caves is very narrow with a few passing places so it might take a bit of time to get the groups there and back before the next ones can go. Obviously, the earlier people arrive, the better chance of their car being photographed at the caves. We will in any case have time for photos in the big carpark, where we shouldn’t have any difficulty getting all the 480s in a row.
We will then walk up to the caves (shock, horror !) for 11 when the coffee shop opens. n.b no access to toilets before 11.
As usual, Al and I will travel down the night before, so we will take our cars to photograph at the caves on the Friday evening. Anyone wanting to join us then will of course be very welcome. If it all goes pearshaped members driving home that way after staying overnight could return to the caves on Sunday evening (they close at 5.30).
If we end up with an invader or two in the photos, I’ll have a go at editing them out.

I was born and raised in High Wycombe, and Lee and I had our first house there until we moved north in 2005 :D .

Haven't been to the Hellfire Caves for years...

Think we need to sound out a few old friends for Friday night accommodation...

Just spotted this on msn :

Police have launched a crackdown on drivers with poor vision to address road safety concerns.
Motorists pulled over by police officers during September will be tested to see if they can read a number plate from 20 metres (65 feet).
Drivers who fail to show that they can pass the test will have their driving licences immediately rescinded.
Thames Valley, Hampshire and the West Midlands forces will be running the crackdown, supported by the road safety charity Brake and opticians firm Vision Express.

better get down to Specsavers !

I'll second that - it's about time we caught up again Jeff!

Hope the op goes fine...

Bugger!

They've moved the surgery back to 4:30 in the afternoon.

On the plus side, it should mean I'll not be delayed in the hospital, however, I'll probably just have to drive straight to the hotel.

Please would everyone planning to come let me know if they are staying for lunch and/or evening meal, and if so how many in their car - just need to give the venues a better idea of numbers.
Also good to know if anyone is joining/leaving part way through the day so I know to keep in touch if things change on the day.
cheers

I've a room booked at the hotel which I can't cancel, so aim to be joining at the very start (probably for the pre-start chat and breakfast), then will rejoin in the evening.

Having spent all day Thursday and this morning cleaning and polishing Lily, we set off for Hampshire at 1pm. Just arrived back home on a breakdown truck with a dead alternator. The plan now is fish and chips, then off up north of Norwich to our rented garage to retrieve Eva (Sven is in the garage with gear selection problmes, and Snazzy is in the bodyshop - we are actually running out of 480s !!)
All being well, we should be tucked up in the Travelodge by midnight...............

Oh no! Sorry to hear that Sylvia and Al. I'm sure Evil Eva will deliver you safely (and swiftly!).‎

I've just arrived at the High Wycombe Travelodge. If anyone else is staying there, be aware that the parking is in the Eden Shopping Centre multi storey car park and you have to walk to the hotel. Took me three goes to get in to the car park and two goes to find the hotel!

Looking forward to hanging out with you all tomorrow. ‎
