If you come off at Junction 22 there is a route that takes you back to the A50 at Willington is actually less mileage, assuming your route was M1 – A50 and according to Google only adds 8 minutes. Oh and it goes right past my house.

I've just finished revising the route to take us off at J22, on the assumption that J23A will be a tad busy.
Here's the new one from the route planner:

M1 to junction 22 (road closed at junc. 23A)
A511 to Ashby de la Zouche, straight over junction with A42 onto A511, then turn right at next roundabout onto
B587 continue on to Swarkestone Bridge, then follow
A514 to roundabout, take first exit to
A50 (Derby Southern by-pass) towards Uttoxeter, then take exit to
A515 to Ashbourne, then 4 miles north of Ashbourne turn right into Rakes Lane and continue to Tissington Hall (DE6 1RA)

Sadly no, you would need to take a right at the second roundabout after A42 onto A511 not first and get on the A50 at Willington to go past my house.

Swarkestone Bridge is narrow and has a couple of places of uncontrolled one way traffic for vans, lorries, and people that think their tiny car is the size of a bus which during rush hour can be a bit of a pain. It’s normally ok at the weekends but if the route planner is taking you that way I wonder how many others will be going that way. Having said that I wonder how many sat-navs will route people past my house and it’s normally a quiet village road with parked cars making it one way traffic in places.

I suspect all routes around there will be extra busy. Looking at the route planner again, I assume to pass you our route would take us through Ticknall and Repton ? It would certainly be a bonus to avoid the bridge. Perhaps you will find roadside parking will disappear while the M1 is closed - that'll upset people ! Thank you for the local knowledge - very useful !

okey doke, we'll do that then and take our chances with parked cars. I'll be doing the usual printed routes so hopefully we won't lose anyone and leave them to the mercy of their satnav.

For people who are joining after Northampton, please be aware that we will be about half an hour later than the times given at the start of this thread due to our scenic tour and parade past eye of ra's house.
