6th May Mobile Mini Meet
We're currently organising a one day meeting for Saturday 6th May. The rough plan is for as many of us as possible to meet in the Northampton area between 8.30 and 11 ish with a friendly cafe nearby for breakfast/snacks/drinks as required and a get to know one another chat/poke around under bonnets etc
We will then move on to the Derby area for a pub lunch (or maybe a picnic if the weather seems trustworthy) and doubtless more 480 based conversations, after which we will follow a scenic route through the Derbyshire Peak District and end up somewhere south of Huddersfield at - yep - another pub for more of the same around teatime.
Everyone is invited, the more the merrier, hopefully for the whole day but if not just for whatever part suits.
If anyone has any suggestions, or if anyone is from the Derby or Huddersfield area and can suggest possible venues that would be great and can be added to this thread. I already have a spy out in Northampton area.
If you are interested in joining us please use pm to let me know asap, it's difficult to decide on venues without an idea of numbers.

Re: 6th May Mobile Mini Meet
Northampton venue proposed is Toby Carvery, London Road, NN4 0TG. There is a petrol station if anyone needs to fill up, and it's right on the A45, between the M1 junction and the A428 junction. Al and I have to travel from Norfolk and I don't do early mornings since I retired, so we are going to drive down Friday and stay in the Travelodge on the same site. At the moment it's £30 a night if anyone else wants to do the same but like the cheap airlines, their prices go up as they get more bookings.

She lives! Count me in! I should call this thing Lazarus, back from the dead. In 99% of other peoples hands, this car would have ended up as parts, not least of all because it would have been highly profitable, I hope you're all proud of me for saving her

Brilliant ! Well done Ade, look forward to seeing it when you've finished sorting out the plumbing and wiring. You're certainly working hard on it, nice to see it being resurrected by someone who knows what they're doing !!

Re: 6th May Mobile Mini Meet
o yes, all in one piece would be a good idea jifflemon - I'm panicking as well, the tatty white turbo currently has no seats or carpet and acres of nicotine to be cleaned off every surface, then needs to spend 2 weeks at the body shop to get it presentable...... Why did we buy it ? O, that engine and gearbox are just to die for
James, yours is looking good, wish that was all ours needed !
Good luck to Rachel with the SRS light, at least there is the easy option of taking the bulb out if all else fails.

Re: 6th May Mobile Mini Meet
Mines a LONG way off the bodyshop yet! I'll just have to turn up with dents, dings and horrible paintwork all present!
I'll probably tax it this month, that way I can use it for a few miles before the event (as the most I've done in it so far, is about 2 miles!)

Yours might be coming to the meet external warts and all, but we're dead impressed by the thorough delving into hidden rot. Alastair hasn't got round to taking any rear bumpers off yet

Re: 6th May Mobile Mini Meet
Thanks, that would be great.
I spent today cleaning nicotine laden gunk off the tatty turbo's floor, treated surface rust with Vactan (as recommended) and painted over, now it's ready for Al to put the replacement carpet in and all the plastic panels I've had in the bath for the last few days. Then he has the joy of taking the half leather seats back out of my ES that he fitted for me a few months back with much bad language. Needless to say this plan wasn't very popular, but he was the one that wanted to buy tatty so he has to suffer the re-organisation. The previous owner had had the car from new and he and his wife both smoked 60 a day so it wasn't just a little bit smelly. I'm hoping that 90% of it was in the seats and carpet which are now in the garden awaiting the next trip to the tip with the 940 estate. The head lining is a niggle, but I'll see how it is (apart from saggy) when I drive it to the meeting next month.

Re: 6th May Mobile Mini Meet
Final plan for Saturday 6th May:
Toby Carvery (open for breakfast)
London Road
Northampton
NN4 0TG 8.30 - 11am
approx 1 hour via M1 to
Tissington Hall
Tissington
DE6 1RA
2 cafes open for lunch/drinks or bring your own picnic 12 - 2pm
scenic route approx 1 hour to
Derwent Dam (WWII testing site for the bouncing bomb)
off A57
postcode S33 0BB
cafe open for snacks/drinks 3 - 5pm
assuming weather is good, A57's infamous Snake Pass (at a sedate speed) approx 1 hour to
Holmfirth pub 6pm until you want to go home
We have shortlisted 2 pubs, both with large carparks and friendly staff:-
The Fox House Inn HD9 2TR has a larger, more varied menu but no 'snug'
The Ford Inn HD9 2LS has a very nice landlord, interested in the cars and a suitable sized snug for us.
The menu is much smaller, and at first inspection looks expensive BUT the portion sizes are large - most meals have a 'small' option which is actually a good sized meal. We ate here and the starters turned out to be big enough for our lunch. Al's chicken and bacon salad was in a deep bowl (spot the 480 key for size comparison)
If you have time, please take a look at thefordinn.com for their menu. I've requested a menu by email from The Fox House and will pass that on when it arrives.
Please let me know which pub you'd prefer, and also how many people will be in your car so I can let the chosen pub know approximate numbers.
Fingers crossed for good weather on the day !

Re: 6th May Mobile Mini Meet
Thanks for all this organisation Sylvia - you have done a sterling job!
Another commitment on Friday evening means we won't get all the way down to Northampton - but your timings are great for us to meet up with everyone at Tissington Hall and go on from there.
There will be two if us (me and wife), and we'll look at the menus as requested.
Fingers crossed for good weather and looking forward to meeting people on Saturday!
David
