2017 meet ups?

Discussions about meetings, both organised by us and by others, can take place here. If you want to organise a meeting yourself, this is the place to start! If you want to inform everyone of a meeting no one might know, feel free to post it here too.

Definitely keen for a meet-up - here's my contribution:

Image

'94 GT. Like others here, outings are generally reserved for the warmer months, the exception being today, as a new MOT is required (fingers crossed!). Here it is at the dealer this morning, coincidentally next to an 850 of similar colour from the same year.

Image

I live in Oxford but I often go through Bucks to get to work so Rachel I'll keep an eye out for a black turbo once the weather warms up! Trevor - glad to hear the car is progressing, I'll be keeping an eye out for that one too.

Very nice GT, and distinctive too with the decal. I will look out for you too. Numbers are building in this area, even if its a small meet it's still a meet! :hopping:

Hi,
We are in Norfolk, and very happy to travel anywhere for a meet. We are lucky enough to be retired, so free to do as we please and have recently bought our 4th 480.
Last year we took our Paris Blue turbo to Germany in June for a meet oganised by a member, and as it was the 30th anniversary since the launch of the 480, the car's designer, John de Vries was there. Following on from that, we were invited to the French club's meet in Normandy in September which John also attended along with his wife. What nice people !! For that one, I took my Paris blue ES (bought in 2001, 230k miles of which I have driven 150k, and the start of our love affair with 480s). Hubby took his Mettalic Green GT which always attracts a lot of attention on the continent as their GT's never had the psychedelic pattern on the leather. If I could fathom out how to add a pic I would - can someone explain it to an ole fogey ?
We'd love to meet up with some Brits and their cars, so fingers crossed a meeting can be arranged.

This is lovely to hear that you drive yours to these events, you'll have to bring both 480's along if we finally get something arranged!

As for pictures I use Photobucket. Put them in there first and then you will get the IMG code to post them on here. I'm not very good at explaining these things, but its pretty easy once you know you need photo bucket! HTH

I look forward to meeting you both and the 480's :D

Thanks Rachel - finally cracked it !

These are my Paris blue ES and hubby's Metallic Green GT on display in Normandy, with John de Vries and his wife (pleased to say we have signed copies of the pic in both cars' document files)

Image

and this was at Limburg - a test of driving skills in our Paris Blue turbo. Hubby got the easy bit - they made me drive the blindfolded circuit, and the parking. Came second in that, who says women can't park ?
Image

Our latest project is a white turbo, looking sad and sorry at the moment but will be pristine by the summer (outside at least). Anyone got a half leather interior I can buy for it ? It was one owner from new when we bought it and he smoked heavily, so the seats are very smelly.

Rachel, have you volunteered yourself to organise a UK meet ?
James - we visited you on a houseboat some years ago to buy a set of 480 mudflaps. Be nice to chat again if you plan to come to the meet.

Wow! Two fantastic looking cars right there!

Just based on the pics we've had so far a meet would be well worth attending!

Dear Sylvia,

I suspected that might be you two as I was reading through. It's great that you have found us here on the forum. The two magnificent 480's I had when you visited unfortunately had to be sold, much to my regret. I do now have a nice old 87 model.

It would be nice to see you again if we do end up at a 480 meet somewhere this year.

All the best,

She did - two new tires but other than that everything was fine. I'm amazed by how much more reliable she is than my boring daily car (Seat Ibiza, supposed to be cheap and reliable yet seemingly anything but), but then the 480 does seem to receive rather more attention...

Sylvia - that's quite a collection! Nice to see another green GT as well. I think the orange clusters go rather nicely with the body colour.

Any further thoughts on a meet from anyone? Do we reckon somewhere in the midlands? There seem to be a few of us scattered around this area and for others, at least it would be, well, sort of in the middle of the country! We definitely need to sort something out, even if there's not gonna be loads of us. At least we could all fit into a moderately sized pub :D

The Green Man Inn on the A43 near Silverstone currently has a car friendly landlord, who's happy to reserve a sizeable chunk of parking spaces for clubs. The pub is quite nice too!

It's also midway between the M1 and M40, so quite accessible.

This sounds like a good idea, what does everyone else think?

Sylvia, love your 480's, I'm glad you got the photos sorted out, do you mean you actually understood my bad explaining?? Maybe I'm not all that bad after all!!

@ Jaster, glad to hear she passed.

I'm up for doing some organising for our meet. Setting a date that would be good for everyone who has already expressed an interest would be a good start. Any dates that people CAN NOT do?

I'm looking forward to this, even if it's a handful of people :hopping:

I would be up for a meet if it could be somewhere central, since I am just north of York.

I know the Green Man on the A43 and that would be simple enough to get to (I pass it quite often anyway) and it would be great to actually have a few 480s together and puts some faces to names :D

And Lily would love meeting up with all those other green GT brothers and sisters of hers...

Sounds like a plan to me. I guess a weekend would suit most people better, I'm fairly easy going. Are we thinking in like 2/3/4 months time when the weather's a bit fairer (also so I can actually turn up in a 480, still in kitcar form ATM :( ) although I am getting there, no doubt you've all seen my thread that was supposed to be about putting a saab engine in one and I've ended up building another 480 first  I'm hoping my black turbo will be resurrected from it's renault conversion ordeal by end of march or before as the MOT runs out on the saab and I want to nick its engine for the blue one, not spend money on it!

I'd also suggest a few months time for the following:

1) possibility of better weather - however, we do live in the United Kingdom remember.

2) Planning. The sooner people know about the date, the sooner people can put a ring around it on the calendar, or suggest other dates if its not good for everyone.

3) I might have a 480 by then! (if not, I'll bring the V70 - it's got the right badge at least!)

Weekends work well for me too, although I'd be happy to take a day off during the week if it came to it for some reason. Happy to wait a couple of months for good weather/more roadworthy cars as well.

I'd also be interested in doing some car shows over the summer, ideally as a group. It might go some way toward raising awareness of the 480 and thus more being saved.. Maybe? There's a big-ish classic car show in Oxford, although dates haven't been set for this year yet, and most of the steam rallies and/or country shows have classic car areas, and make for a pretty good day out. Saves some of the organisational hassle as well if we can tack our meetings onto pre-existing events.

David - I like your taste in cars!

My work varies (self-employed) so although weekdays might be possible it is often very hard to plan far ahead on that front, so I too would find a weekend better.

Agree about it being in a few months time - I suspect many here don't take their 480s out in the winter and certainly Lily intends to hibernate until into March...

Good suggestions about attending other shows etc: I guess if we can manage a meet-up and get to know each other a bit more, that might then be simpler going forward.

Jaster - we both clearly have impeccable taste!

Hello all. I'd be up for a 480 meetup... Local garage has suggested mine's not long left for this world so it'd be great to get it into a reasonable state and find inspiration admiring what has long been my favourite car. Makes my day to spot another and it's getting to be a rarer and rarer treat. I'm based in Midlands so of course all this talk of a central location is right up my street. :D
