There'll be a fee for admittance if you're not in a 480 though

Mine had some lovin' today in preparation for showing it off tomorrow. Gave it a service and cleaned up the engine bay a bit. Also washed it  AND cleaned out the inside

I was going to polish it but thought better of it, my patience would have given out after one panel I think

However, I do have some very friendly guys who run a bodyshop round the back of my workshop and they wouldn't let me take it to a meet without them having a go at it with the machine polishers!

Image

They didn't charge me so it was only a quick blast but it still improved it a lot :hopping:

Plus I got to kick back and relax while it got polished! Double :hopping: :hopping:

Only thing is, being black, it's starting to form a healthy crust of noticeable shit already. I'm not cleaning it again, sorry, today was traumatic enough with washing and interior cleaning in the same session, it comes as it comes now

See y'all in the morning!

Fuelled up and ready to go! We'll see how far 58 litres gets me. Never understood why these cars have such massive tanks - my wallet is lighter though!

Polished up too! Ran out of time for the insides. Will hoover in the morning.

Maybe next time we could go and visit poorly or in-work 480's on our adventures.

How many cars are we looking at in the convoy (when everyone is assembled)?

Count me in (from Derwent Dam)...

I'm all for that! Many hands make light work (unless of course, it's lights that belong to a 480, in which case, good luck! )

Well, tonight I fuelled up and ......

Went to a local car meet with my mate!

Image

Honestly, the paintwork is sooooo bad, that if anyone thinks they can improve it, they're welcome to bring their kit of choice along to have a go! I honestly think the last time the car was ever cleaned was possibly it's first MOT.

I've been told 10 cars :hopping:

For anyone interested in the Mk1 escort, it's my mate who runs the bodyshop. Its a several time show winner and by no means a trailer queen! It's merciless thrashed on every outing. Google GMBodycraft if you're interested.

Wow, everyone has been working hard! Mine is still all covered up in the garage!! Got to do an oil change in the morning! I'll be there at the dam so I'll have time I hope! Really excited now - it will be great to see a bunch of 480's!

See you all on the morrow :hopping:

Discussed it with the wife and it looks like we'll be joining you.

Be nice to see a few 480s even if mine is stuck at home and say hi to some fellow owners. In the 5 years I’ve owned one I have only ever scene 2 others on the road.

You should have bought a pre-1991 car then, they came with 48 litre tanks
By the way, if you have a 60 litre tank, the full tank reading should be 59.0, you can adjust it with a small flat-blad screwdriver turning the potentiometer inside the info centre switch. :) Talking about massive tanks. my V70 has a 70 litre tank which empties quicker than the 60 litre tank in its distant Dutch relative.

Have fun people, if it weren't a bit far away for me to hop by I would surely have joined!

My best bits of the day:

Seeing everyone arriving at Derwent Dam car park

Three BRG GTs in one place, all in great fettle

The great chat & chatter about our own and each others' cars

Ade's dulcet tones making light of all things 480 mechanical :)

Jeff's goody bags for all!

Sylvia's organisation and obvious love of the marque

Rachel's immaculate blue/grey turbo

The complete age range of cars on display

How clean was Dave's engine bay??!

Will's red front brake calipers

Cheers all! See you again soon I hope!

It was a good day, soooo cool seeing all those 480's together :D

Noticed the convoy got lots of attention out on the road!

Rachel's turbo is definitely one of the sexiest 480's I've ever come across, with you on that Martin, the paint is so suave, liked the 3 green GT's too though. I liked all of them really, nice to see such a variety of 480's, there was quite a mix considering limited numbers. Steak and beer were, of course, a highlight, along with James's technical bibles :D They need scanning and uploading....

Thanks to Sylvia and Al for organising, it was great to meet you all, and Rachel- that was good fun coming down the M6 together last night, couldn't resist seeing what the richmod turbo's got :D Bit of Richmod vs Homebrew turbo action on a quiet motorway was a perfect finish to a great day, and it meant we kept the last two in convoy until I had to pull into Hilton park services for fuel and coffee

I'm sure it was very entertaining for the surrounding motorists to see two 480 turbos having a bit of a play :) Definitely need to do that track day ;)

Hope everyone and their lovely 480's got back safe and well and I shall look forward to meeting some/all of you again at some point. And the only time we had to get the spanners out was for the loose wiper arm, they all performed faultlessly :D That must be some kind of record for a classic car meet/rally, that they all made it all the way without issue! Dunno about everyone else but whenever I see convoys of old vehicles going somewhere, chances are, you see at least one stranded on the hard shoulder

ps. Is 50mph the new national speed limit or what!?!?!?

I was convinced it was 30!

Epic day, needs to happen again! The convoy was epic; got big thumbs from a biker who, after passing me and saw the convoy of 480's, turned back and did that sort of "all of these?" Type wave? I swear I could see his grin through his helmet!!

Not a lot to say that hasn't been said; Sylvia is a born organiser; Al for his navigation and "spirited" driving!
DCWalker for making me envious of another 480!

Whilst this forum is awesome, it's no substitute for getting out there and meeting the folks behind the names.

Many ideas floating round my head for things to do at the next one (as well as bringing my car up to standard!)

This really was a great day. So many lovely 480's and all with interesting stories. A beautiful setting too. Thank you so much Syliva for all of the organising. It was great to meet you all - and the cars, names and plates I seen for so long and now I've met them!

I really enjoyed the convoy. If only there were none of those other cars about! Ade and I certainly kept the convoy going in fine style into the night with some very flamboyant driving done down the motorway! My 480 was feeling fine and was having so much fun, she still had more but I got the fear a bit and I also had my son telling me off!! They don't half love going fast don't they!! Ade, I'd be well up for a track day, and thanks again for the running repair....the paper did the trick. I did encounter some light rain and it held out well. I'll be sure to do a more permanent repair this week. Your a star, thanks. Like you said it was great there wasn't any other problems with the 480's. They all ran sweet :hopping:

We ;) really should do this again at some point soon. I know there are more people on the fb pages who'd love to have been there too.
