40 years of the 480 in the UK - 11 June 2027
It's a way away yet but, as many people here will know, the 480 was officially launched in the UK on Thursday 11 June 1987 - coincidentally that was the same day as a General Election.
As one of the team of 3 people, together with Jan and Thijs, who is up to my neck in making arrangements for the European get together in Cologne at the end of May I am not really in a position to help very much but I thought it worth flagging the anniversary in case anyone wants to arrange a UK get together in mid June next year?
It would be a great opportunity to get some UK 480s together.

Yeah, I'll pop down in my MOT and road tax exempt 480! (Actually free tax is the year after as I think it has to turn 40 in the first few months; and I plan to always have an MOT).
Maybe the Cambridge met I keep mentioning but never get round to organinsing? I can hire the village hall opposite my house for very little and we can hang out and also work on the cars a bit if that seems like something people would like to share skills, etc.? I can't think of any good driving roads at all round where I live but its a nice place to be. I wonder if we can get in to Cambridge and go punting if I can arrange parking?

Sounds good James. Punting would be fun as well. I'd definitely be up for it.

Sounds like an excellent idea James! A get together in Cambridge would be excellent and, with a D reg 480, you would be just the right person!jamescarruthers wrote: ↑Tue Feb 10, 2026 7:13 pmYeah, I'll pop down in my MOT and road tax exempt 480! Do you know when your car was first registered?

I have checked and we can have the hall either or both days. Although it would be nice to have it on the actual day, a Friday, I am presuming that the Saturday would be significantly more sensible for the majority of folk that work weekdays.
What do you all think?
Martin, my car was registered in May 87, same as Keith’s.

Maybe both days ? Would suit me as I'm retired, but probably best to put feelers out to see how many others could come on a Friday.

I could do Friday, Saturday or Sunday but I agree with Sylvia - it's probably best to put it to a vote James

Better and better ! My camping days are long gone (along with the 6 berth tent that took 2 strong men half hour to erect) but I'm only an hour away, or a local Travelodge.might be a better option for me.

Agreed - somewhere near a local Premier Inn or Travelodge would work well for me too.
