Colors 480 website?

Post by coyote1980 » Sun Nov 23, 2003 11:32 am

Hi all,

I was wondering, what colors would everyone here on the board fancy?

I'm not saying that it will change, but if it does, I would be interested in your opinion in this matter... :)

I reckon each section should be a different colour, and the colours should be faithful reproduction of official Volvo 480 colours :D

Not necesarilly - at the very least you could make the borders the multi colours and keep actual content to a smart consistent shade...

Sounds nice, can work great when I start teaching myself to work with CSS (cascading style sheets), that way I can change the appearance of a page in no-time, or even at random ;)

Let's not... Don't want to get in troubles with Volvo Cars themselves. The colors and fonts etc. are very much copyrighted. The main reason why we are not warned by Volvo Cars is because we choose not to use their exact colors nor fonts. Edwin Poorthuis did get warnings years ago when he still had the Volvo 480 website. He had to stop using a font that looked like the official Volvo font...

Fonts I can understand, but colours... I don't think you can copyright colours - they exist naturally, and you can't patent or copyright things that occur naturally - otherwise apple growers would copyright their own varieties, which they can't do....

well, maybe he used The I roll icon. You used a kind of blue that was real close to the volvo blu didn't you ?
I agree with mr. dragon here. Hmmm. You should play the "ich habe es nicht gewusst" thing (no offence , anyone) I mean noone can know things like colours can be copy right-ted (rediculas, no ?) Its like sewing the sun to be yellow, because this is the official house colour of some german energy company.....

well, any colour, as long as its natural, clear, and friendly for the eyes if you ask me, just being practical. For instance, this grey background with black letters is far better for the eyes as the headacke blue with wite letters.

luck

I would have to agree with Volvofox. :) Something that is easy to read, like light gray background and dark blue characters... :D

I am not very keen on having an arguement with Volvo Cars, once you start having trouble with them I doubt they are willing in the future to be of any assistence.

I also think that colors should bee a free choice. In fact they are, you can use the Volvo-blue color on anything as long as that something has nothing to do with Volvo. Which we cannot say about the 480, although some dealers might think differently ;)

I think you're showing undue paranoia/naivity about how this stuff works, to be honest Daniel.

You keep referring to this as "Volvo Blue" and "Volvo this, Volvo that" - Volvo DID NOT invent these colours, they simply chose to use them - everyone in the world is free to use this colour also. What Volvo would be interested in is the content of the site - but if they had a problem with the content of the site, they'd have made a move by now already - by chosing to use the same colours as them won't make a difference... Seriously!

For the record to put some context to my comment, I worked for 2 years as the Security and Abuse manager for a large UK ISP dealing with all this legal stuff and working closely with the Police...

But as you keep hinting, it's your site, so.... whatever... It was just a suggestion afterall - disregard the suggestion, that's your perogitive, just don't dismiss the idea based on incorrect facts and assumptions, thats all...

Think about the ford model T..only available in black, that was until old Henry took Mother Nature to court and won the rights to use other colours!!!
