WARNING: Everyone, mind your Avatars!

Post by dragon » Fri May 21, 2004 8:03 pm

Over the months, I have been noticing avatars getting bigger and bigger, far bigger than the original rule size that daniel set way back when (which I think was 80x80pixels max).

I think 80x80 is a little too restrictive, and I think Daniel did, so was lenient, as long as the name bar didn't encroach too much on the main topics, it was fine. I personally think that's a good policy too.

But lately, there's been a few avatars that probably are just a little too wide and do tend to make the name bar unecesarilly large, so I would like to propose, for the sake of the looks of topics, and the amount of data we all have to download, that we adopt a new maximum size, and I propose that no avatar is bigger than 150 pixels wide and probably shouldn't be more than 200 high.

So, PLEASE, could you all check your own avatars and if they are just a tad too large, resize them down a little to the above guidelines.

This is a kind of a nip-it-in-the-bud request, as it's obvious when someone comes on with avatar that's obviously bigger than the rest, but I think whats been happening is that people look at the existing avatars and they have one they like that is only a few pixels bigger, so it shouldn't matter, but then someone else thinks the same of that ans has one just a bit bigger than that because it doesn't matter, and just over time, the largest size of avatar has got a little too large - noone's fault, just evolution I guess, but I thought I should mention it before evolution make things _too_ out of hand :)

Thank youuuuuuuu all for listening :)

Thanx Gaz!

Had little or no time the last few weeks as it was a madhouse here... But back on the web now, and back on the forum.

Everyone, what Gaz has said above will indeed be the policy we will maintain. Avatars wider than 150 and higher than 200 pixels will be deleted. The owner of that avatar will be notified of this.

Thank you for your attention!

This issue is creeping up again, I have recently asked a few people to reduce the size of their avatars.
