Modding the backpanel - keyhole-less trunk!

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

well its really easy to make the glowing logo, i already made a couple for me and for my friends, so thats not the problem. the costs for the logo will be around 15-20€. the expensive part is the converter which makes 110V out of 12V for the el foil, but once you have one you can connect as many foils as you want.

like i already said the only dificult part will be the rebuilding the middle panel out of some clear plastic material - maybe macrolon or something.

so if anybody has some more experience in plastc materials and forming post it here.

@dan: the badges came from a 700 series volvo i think, i like them more cause the 400 ones are really huge, only trucks have bigger badges :)

no one likes the dodge idea? its also dead easy to make it - you only need a big angle grinder and 10 new backlights :)

So then Red, you reckon you could knock one of these 480 glowing badge things up then? Put me down for one (as long as it looks that cool!)...

I agree with the big badge thing, thats why i took mine off. I'll have to look for a 700 series down the scrapper now...

well i was thinking it could be just a plexiglass over the normal backpanel. then carve the logo on it and put leds to the side / on top of it. that way only the logo will light up. im sure there are lots of instructions on this matter on computer modding sites... ill post them later if anyone is interested.

i'm not trying to sell them and i don't have much time to do it right now. but i can post a detailed "how to" tutorial if you want, everyone can make it because it is realy easy and it will be cheaper because i am from germany and the shipping costs will be a bit high.

@dakyy: plexiglas is not that good for car use, especially for the outside - it will deform in the sun realy quick and it can crack in the winter. it is also not very resistant against scratches

Well, It doesn't have to be plexiglass, there are other, more suitable materials that have same effects. It was just an example. :)

This is what I was referring to:

http://www.metku.net/index.html?sect=vi ... /index_eng

Scroll down to the end. They carve the image/logo on the backside as a mirror image. If you get the right materials that should do the trick with Volvo too :)
