SNOW COVERS

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

SNOW COVERS

Post by lee » Sun Jul 17, 2005 3:53 pm

As some of you might know I maybe copying the snow cone.
Before i do this how many people would be interested.
Rough guide price would be 35-50 ukbp. Sorry for the wide range in price but i cannot get a more exact price until i have the scoop here.
Would anyone want a carbon one?

Lee,

these snow covers, will they work as a bonnet scoop? if so, have you got any pics - ive got a 440, but if it would do as a nice scoop ill be interested in one.

Thanks

Matt.

How does this attach to the car?

any chance of it being a slightly lower profile than the ones in the photos?

I think it looks a bit on the overstated side. or maybe not i cant make up my mind as it looks ok at some angles and not at others!

\yes, they were, but not available anymore i believe.

I think they'd be good if they served a purpose, as an air intake, but just for looks, i don't like. I'd like to see one painted to match to give a better judgement.

The snow cover was part of the winter pack. It also came with a blanking panel for the front grill. This was to allow the engine to heat up quicker in extreme winters. The the scoop was the only in take

The snow scoop for the bonnet is indeed no longer available. It was an original Volvo part as pol mentioned.

The make the 480 look a bit more aggresive, I love them, but am not yet convinced to put them on my car.

not the best pics, but this is the same snow cover as in marts pic (ie i bought it off him, so its the SAME one)

ive sprayed it blue, to match the car.......looks pretty good.
in all honesty, they dont stand that far off the bonnet...maybe an inch at most?
they can be adapted to be a scoop.....they pretty much do that by their shape anyway, ive made a box thing that sits under half the normal louvres on the bonnet, and piped it down to the airbox....works ok for me
fitting....hmm......theyve got these little L brackets at the front, that clip onto the louvre undersides, and i think should have the same for back......being volvo plastic, they had all pretty much snapped, so i made some out of metal L brackets, and just tiewrapped the back down.....to be honest, i would tiewrap it anyway, just to make sure it doesnt fly off at speed!

YES! I'd be interested.
I think they look great. As long as it's gonna have the proper attatchments to the bonnet as the original.
How much more do you think Lee for a carbon one?
I know i can't afford it until the end of August :(

Still want one! :D

reckon im gonna make my own, lower profile, cut the grill on the bonnet out and mesh it and mould the scoop into the bonnet (bonnet needs a re-spray anyway!)

Dunno if i'll get it done by the time i go to uni though

aim of thred was to see how much interst there is in Lee doing one, not what everyone else would do........no offence or anything intended.....just that threads get confusing when they go OT (i know im probably the worst offender for it!)

Well I think I would be interested if there was a lower profile one available. Say about half an inch to about three quarters of an inch.

I think that would look good! :)
