Ideas Please

The Volvo 480 looks good as is, but if you have the desire to give it a more personal look you can find out what others did to their 480 and be inspired.

A dash surround would be useful but complicated as fuck - easier to find them off the scrappy for now and bodgethem back together with super-glue right?

How about nose-cones? I know we can still get them off Volvo in standard GRP (or whatever) but would like to see availability of the crack-addicted 480 look - not the cars with white dust on the bumper but the ones with a single nostril :) or even nose cones rounded off so they don't have that crease in the centre? just a thought

Every dash surround I find it's been cracked by the owner or another 480 owner trying to remove things.

:o Dash surround made of tougher/thicker stuff!

I have to say that repro dash surrounds, wings, noses etc would be what I'd like to see - then we know we have a constant supply of essential spares for the future...

Must say i'm liking the idea of front arches (esp. as mine are rusting!). Getting the finish right would be hard!

custom rear arch inserts to stop that damn rust just like we have in the front arches, i think they would be very popular ...??

Sorry to bring this up but..... I really think a dash surround would be a great seller! I have not seen a good dash at the scrap yard for almost a year :cryhard:

Another idea-probably be laughed off for something so small, but what about clear repeaters/rear markers? I've noticed there are a few members with them, and a few who are after them. The ones that chap at the '480 Center' made. Nice looking and i reckon they would sell well.

No problems with the orange jobbies on there at the moment, but i don't like the way from the side, the front lenses are white then the rest are orange...

Just a thought.

I agree, we did have a chat about these before but the member who made them has been out of contact for quite a while. Sure someone else can make them

I'd be well in for a set of those!! :D

I don't suppose we would need the whole side repeaters, maybe just the lens?

I don't know wether that chap has stopped making them because they were a bit dodgy? My Dad recently bought some rubber gaskets to go round the rear quater panel markers as his had detiriorated. Today he took them out because they started coming away and he noticed the rear markers were starting to crumble around the edge! He could even bend the marker in half-like thick toffee. Perhaps thats why we can't get in touch with him??

But aside that, they do look really neat:

And even on my 440 they looked good...

I just think they could be a worthwhile pursuit...

Glad i wasn't laughed at anyway!

I managed to get the white ones for the front indicator repeaters. The back reflectors I got smoothed out, look at the avatar! No one noticed it so far on the forum

I am in talks with a few companies at the moment about the clear repeaters however the tooling cost outways the interest so far.

Hi Lee.

I suppose it boils down to the same as it always does with your work-you need to actually get a fair amount of people signed up before you can crack on. It is a shame, because from what i have seen/heard the stuff you make/replicate seems to be pretty shit hot.

So, with regards to the costs/interest, what sort of prices you getting atm, and what sort of quantity would you need to produce to make it reasinable? I presume, as they are quite small items, you would need quite a substantial amount of interest.

Is it worth starting another poll? Must be quite frustrating for you!

@480 Rocket-thats also something i have considered, smoothing off (want to get rid of the apparent paint run underneath my passenger side marker). Would look quite nice i think-I'm sure we would notice more if the reflection wasn't across the panel! Upon closer inspection though, it does look nice...Costly??

I was looking at the rear spoiler on this members 480, looks really good. But, would the cost be too much?

I'd defo be up for clear repeaters. Look really good on Paris Blue.

The main problem with the side repeaters is you need to find a small company as the larger one either wont talk to you or want you to order 5000 yes five thousand sets!!!!!! Now you see what I mean about the costs.

At the moment 480 gear is going backwards. Even I am taking the twin pipes off the road.

So at the moment I will leave it ticking over with the current products as I have no further money to throw away at new moulds and ideas. I feel really bad to say that but its due to a slow down in 480 fun. I feel it due to the winter coming in and people need to spend money on more important things. Like coming to me for their winter service including Mobil antifreeze flush ;) But even on the service side of 480's there has been a slow down. I am currently servicing Fords, pugs, saxo's and other rubbish which is draining me as I hate them all.

I will however be doing one last thing hopefully in the next month or so which is..... CHEAP de-cats for the 2ltr and the turbo and maybe for the 1.7

Feel for you there dude-must be horrible compared to the 480!

Can't believe that there has to be a minmum of 5000  I don't know much about remoulding and things like that, but if you tell me or give me an idea of what to look for, i don't mind thrashing Google's search engine to see if i can find anything, then when the weather picks up a bit next year then perhaps it's something that could be looked into a bit more in depth.
